The refrigerator section has no cold air blowing in. The freezer section is working fine.
The freezer is working fine, but the refrigerator part is warming, AGAIN!! This will be the 4th time it has happened. There is a frost buildup on the back of the freezer panel and has been each time. Each time we have just unplugged the entire appliance and let the freezer defrost. Once we plug it back in the refrigerator gets nice and cold again. We thought the problem was with the ice maker so we did not use the ice maker this last time, but it still frosted over. It has been about a month since the last time this happened. We have vacuumed out the vent on the bottom and the back. What else can we do before we have to call a repair man?
Do we need to cal the maytag repair guy to change the defrost thermostat or this is an easy fix ? If we can do it myself, please give us info how to change it.. Thanks
Same problem has just occurred on my Amana. I plan to troubleshoot the frezzer defrost thermostat tonight...

Re. the above solution it would be wonderful to show a drawing of the back of the refrigerator and how to remove the back panel. This would be helpful in finding the defrost thermostat.

Model # important.
You have a failure of the defrost system. There are 3 components not counting wire and connectors. Most likely it is not the heater that leaves the defrost timer then the defrost thermostat. My guess is that the defrost thermostat is bad (just a guess for now) Need more info to help you more. If you know what and where the defrost timer is then advance it clockwise till you hear a distinct click, not the little clocks you hear during turning it, a distinct click. If after about 10 minutes you notice the frost down low on the freezer rear interior wall melting. Replace the Timer it is bad.
If this makes no difference then I am betting you have a bad defrost thermostat and it is located on the top right part of the freezer cooling coil behind the rear interior wall of the freezer behind the frost.
