Serial numbers are next to useless in ID'ing bikes, and if you already have the model what do you mean by "what kind of bike it is"? The bottom line is that it's no important for value, parts, or repairs to know more the "kind of bike". It's the parts on it that count.

Almost impossible to ID a bike by serial number alone. Not that important anyway, if you did not care enough to find out before you bought it. If it's been stripped of brand and model then it's either a cheap repaint job, stolen or both.

Impossible to ID most bikes by serial number alone, let alone assign a value without knowing condition, amount of original parts, etc. Do a little work yourself - Google "(brand/model) serial number" (without quotes) or at least tell us what kind of bike it is. See my tip:

It looks to be an English bike from the view the steertube

If you take the flaring off and get to the motor there should be a serial number stamp on the engine usually on the front.also might have it on front tube behind plastic

Serial numbers by themselves don't tell who manufactured your bike. You need the brand name, the kind and size of bike is also helpful

Serial numbers alone won't tell much about a bike. Need size, type of bike and any decals or markings on it

Bikes is bikes.Serial numbers are non-information. What do you want to know? Try the unnamed manufacturers's website or even a generic one like Schwinn or Huffy.

Search engines have all kinds of answers - "how to..."

Usually there will be a bike shop sticker on it, if so, call them and they can tell you who owns the bike by the serial number. No sticker, check the phone book and find out what shops sell that brand. (At least, that is how we do it, we save every serial number for our customers and sometimes we know the bike was stolen before our customer because the police call us). If there is no sticker, call the police dept and ask if someone has reported one missing or look in the paper. Other than that, I don't know of any more ideas.
