The power on the Panasonic Palmcorder IQ PV-A206 turns itself off. I've tried plugging directly and with a fully charged battery, no luck.

please make this test and fix it. God bless you

If the video camera doesn't work, make sure the battery is charged (see The Battery Recharger Fix-It Guide) or replace a battery that won't hold a charge. Make sure the AC adapter is connected properly. Clean any dirty contacts on the battery, charger, and AC adapter with a cotton swab dipped in denatured alcohol. Remove corrosion with a clean pencil eraser, then wipe the area with an artist's brush to remove any debris. Find and test the fuse, if any.
If the power goes off soon after starting, recharge a low battery. Also, turn the video camera power off, then turn it back on and eject the tape. If the problem persists, check the fuse
If the battery won't charge, clean the contacts and fully discharge the battery, then recharge it. If the problem persists, replace the battery

If the video camera works intermittently, remove and reseat the to establish good contact. If necessary replace the fuse

Try to remove the rechargeable battery and use a battery of the same type but an alkaline like the energizer. Sometime rechargeable battery malfunctions that it seems fully charged but actually is not. If the camera continue to power on when you replace the battery it simply means that your problem is in the battery.

I was given a nice sony handycam camcorder. i was told the battery is probley dead

Batteries have a limited life even if they are constantly charged.
Leaving batteries in constant charge will limit their life by causing gas leakage. Once depleted, they must be replaced. There is also a small button battery that keeps unit memory up, if you do not use camera for months at a time, replace this battery also.
Ni-Cad batteries need to be refreshed ony once a month by discharging them fully, then recharging them fully for best performance to erase memory effect

Battery Life

This is a typical problem with these cameras. The culprit is a failed onboard battery. The battery is for retaining the time and date while replacing the removable batteries. If you put batteries in and set the time and date- then remove the batteries for about 30 seconds- put the batteries back in- if it asks you to set the time and date again the onboard battery is no good. If you remove the onboard battery your camera will be very usable and the batteries will last 100 times longer. If you can change the batteries quickly you will not have to set the time and date because there is a small capacitor that will retain a charge, in other words it works better without the battery. I have done this to about 15 of these cameras and all worked great afterwards. You will need a precision philips screwdriver to remove the 7 screws that hold the case together. The onboard battery is small, like a hearing aid battery, mounted on the lower board just behind a piece of brownish cellophane like material. Just cut the material open and look in there between the boards and you will see it. It is mounted flat grap it with some precision long nose pliers or tweezers, wiggle it until the solder joints fail and remove it. Re-assemble and your paperweight is a camera again. If you do it wrong ,which is unlikely, you still have a functioning paperweight.
