Out machine did this, and we had to send it to Edmonton (we live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada) to get it fixed and ours actually just did the exact same thing again yesterday - not under warranty anymore, so getting a Nespresso machine instead....

My machine blinking on steam, the wand does not want t o steam, the espresso does not pour. The knob is turned on stand by , but still some steaming noise comes, but no steam comes from the wand, nor...

When it is blinking on steam it means it is preparing the unit for steam. When the steam light goes solid your unit is ready to make steam.

  • Turn from standby to steam then wait for steam light to go solid.
  • When solid steam wand will begin dribbling then spitting out water, which will then turn to steam.
  • When it begins to steam, turn back to standby. NOTE: you only have 6 seconds before steaming turns off.
  • place steaming wand in jug and turn from standby back to steam.
You will hear pumping noises when you turn off your steam, because it releases the steam and puts the excess water in to the drip tray.
  • make sure your bean hopper is properly locked in to the unit. Grinder won't work if hopper not locked in.
  • Make sure your water filter has been prepped and locked securely in to the reservoir and your reservoir is filled.
  • Use fresh beans.
  • Sounds funny but use good quality water, do not use ordinary tap water. Make sure it is filtered or use bottled water (cooler bottles).
  • Try to grind your beans to a good consistancy.
  • Breville recomends about 10kg tamping pressure, use a set of scales to check the feel.
  • Tamp to about 3-5 mm below rim of grouphead (portafilter). Or the tamp has a guide on the side, that silver side on the tamp is the tamp line. Pretty vauge about that in the book.
If all else fails go to www.breville.com.au and check your model and watch some of the vid clips.

Saeco Magic Comfort Plus still producing steam in "off" position.

This may be something you can fix. It depends on your comfort level with mechanical repairs. You probably need to replace some o-rings in the steam valve. Don't keep trying to brew or steam because leaking water or steam inside may cause an electrical short. Decide if you want to delve into the repair, or locate a repair center near you. I could put you in touch with some.

Functional problem code SC542-00

SC542 error = Fusing temp. warming-up error.
The fusing temp. does not reach the fusing standby temp. within 125 seconds after the main power switch is turned on.

Causes:
Thermistor defective or out of position
Fusing lamp open
Thermofuse open
BICU defective
Power supply brd defective
Poor connections

ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE POWER FROM THE WALL BEFORE WORKING ON MACHINE

*** replace the thermistor AND the thermofuse*** If one went bad then the other will probably go bad soon. ( 95% it is one of these). You can check lamp first by disconnecting one end and putting a meter on it to see if it is open -- if open then replace.

I found a solution to the problem on another website. It was suggested that an air lock was likely the problem if it wasn't the heating unit. The answer was to flush out the lock by opening the steam valve & running the water through it a few times (by activating the espresso switch). I had tried doing that with no luck before, but the trick was to do it a number of times to completely clear the air lock. It worked, and my machine is now working properly again.

Arcam alpha 7 amplifier goes back into standby when volume is turned up

Hi,
Can you, or can someone you know, check for DC voltage on the speaker terminals when the amp is on, but not playing? Ideally, the meter should read 0mV with no signal, and certainly less than +/- 10mV. Anything over +/- 30mV is worth having checked out, especially if it changes as you turn the volume knob with no signal applied.

No water coming through brewing head

Hi there, I had a very similar problem with my Gaggia Classic. Worked fantastic every day for two years then one day the brew head was reduced to a very slow drip. I rang some Gaggia service agents and they all said it needs a service ($100-$150). The last one I called told me to descale it before bringing it in for a service as it was probably scale buildup. I told them it wasn't a gradual thing - it just suddenly stopped and they said what happens is the scale builds up to a point where a piece breaks off and clogs the pipeworks leading to the brewing head. So, I used the instructions outlined here: http://www.coffeemachine.com.au/descalin... At then end of the second flush through the steam head, I closed the steam vale to try and push the descaling solution back through the brew head (just dripped through again) then left it for 10 minutes again. Did the same the third time and it went to drip again for about five seconds then bingo - burst back to full flow. Hope this helps.
