Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone
I go into the camera app and all I get is the picture of a shutter and the bar at the bottom. The only part of the screen which responds to me touching it is the button in the bottom left which goes to saved pictures. This is with OS 3.0 however a similar thing hapened with OS 2.2.1, the shutter opened but just to a black background and all the pictures came out black. The phone is a 1st gen iPhone and so is quite old so I am wondering if it might be a hardware and not a software problem. Any thoughts? Thanks
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

you might have a lot of corrosion inside your phone.
try to open it up and clean it very well with alcohol.
the main camera does not work probably because of corrosion on its connector to the main board.

This is an internal problem with your camera phone. Send back to carrier or Apple if under warranty or find authorized repair in phone book.

there is a hardware issue. Apple should give you a replacement. If you're out warranty, you can try to open it and camera module. If that fails you need a new logic board. You can get the part on Ebay or at iPhone Repair and there is a free guide that shows you how to open a kindle and install parts at iPad Repair Guide.

I have had the same problem. I backed up all photos/videos from the phone and then deleted them, then rebooted the phone (off/on). The camera functioned after that. Then I restored the photos to the phone.
