You don't need to purchase an expensive rain guard, you can go to any hardware store and get an inexpensive plastic tarp.

SOURCE: how do i get a replacement rain top for a northwest territory silver creek 18x10 3 room tent ?

try an outdoor shop
a trick here is to water proof the cover before using it
outdoor shops sell a silicon product that you can spray on the cover after you assemble it
let it dry completely and then when it rains the water will not penetrate the material and will run off
you will find that if you do the entire tent with silicon then when you touch the sides of the tent when it is raining ,the water will not come in where you touch it
any other advantage is that when the tent is stored for a time the silicon protects the material.

Tent replacement parts

Tent-Parts.stuccu.com. This is only one place you can get replacement parts for tents online. This one should be a good starting point.

Can't figure out how to put the poles in the tent to set it up

Well, without a brand and year, it will be hard to figure out exactly. Here are some basics.

First thing, peg the tent down. (At leat the corners)
Next, locate the two longest poles. These are usually fit through a sleeve in the roof of the tent and attached in the corners via pegs or inserted into a pin. Put one corner in, then go to the other side and slide/bend the pole until it fits into the corner. Let it flop on the ground. Do the same for the other corner and the tent should be standing.

Next, if there are other poles, they could be for the front entrance or to support the rain guard. Look for peg holes or pins to place the poles into and that should give you an idea. (Also look up your model on the internet to give you an idea how it looks.)

Depending on where you are camping, you may not need the rain cover. It goes over the top and probably bungies into the peg holes.

Hopefully this will get you started. good luck. Alley
