Installing old maxtor HD on newr pc, have to change it to a slave

Old maxtor hard drive 92720u8 from an old Hewlett P, manufatured 8/16/99, with no jumper diagram. I want this drive to be a slave on my newer pc. The current set up has two jumpers, one x and one o, like this
x o o .
x . . . .
Notice, number 3 pin is missing, don't know why. Some other info on the drive, Jumper: J50, Master/Single: On, Slave: off.

I'd like to make this a slave drive on my newer pc, a dell dimension B110

J50 is the one furthest from the power connector. To make it a slave remove ALL of the jumpers.

Jumper off will set the drive to slave. If you can connect both drives to the same ribbon cable with the master on the end & the slave to the second connector. Look at your bios as win is booting up to see if shows the drive as slave, you will not be able to copy windows as a operating system off of the drive, but should be able to copy files.

Good luck on your endevors.

No power in my Maxtor 3200 external HD

Maxtor hard drives have sometimes have problems. When you say it didn't work, can you here the drive spinning? Do you feel a G effect if up pick up the drive? Are any lights on? If all these are no then the unit is dead. Now all may not be lost. This drive may be able to be slaved to another and then accessed to remove your data. Do you have the capability of removing the drive from the case and slaving it to another CPU? If not then the unit needs to see a reputable repair person.

If the drives internal mechanics have failed then theres not much to do. You can try to take it to a professional datarecovery.

It will cost you.

Maxtor Diamondmax 80GB ATA 133 help!

there are several programs you can use to get your data off.
You will have to slave your new drive on to the IDE cable that your old one is on, you can then use symantec ghost to clone the old drive to the new,
Acronis true image is the other program you can use, put acronis true image on the new drive and the slave the old drive and take and image of it then recover it to the new drive.
Hope this helps
