Question about Hitachi 53FDX20B 53" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Hitachi FDX20B I replaced the IC's in the tv and resitors 50, 54 and 58 as I had once about a year ago. Everything was ok but, there was a slight convergence issue on the left side of the screen. I tried to fix it ( stupid me). I was trying to adjust the the convergence manually and some how got stuck in Static mode. I fumbled around a bit trying to get out of it. I now have a green cross hatcht hat is severely distorted at both the top and bottom of the screen. Is there any way that i can rest the TV to the factory defaults? Any comments or suggestions. Please help anyone who can talk me through it, instructions etc...

Distorted pict. w/ wavy circles

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Did you check the resitors out of circuit? As its very rare when a Hitachi doesnt open at least two on the affected circuit. If you checked the resistors in circuit an open resitor will read good even though its actually open.

it sounds like your blue convergence ic is getting weak you need to replace the ic's STK392-110 and you should replace both because when 1 is bad the other will go real soon. They are inexspensive at the sight I posted and you will also get free tech online support if you purchase them there.

I Have a Hitachi Ultravision projetion TV Ned help to fix it.

This sounds like the solder joints on one of the convergence output IC's have cracked loose or the IC itself is defective and quitting when it warms up. The IC needs to be either resoldered or replaced.
