Unfortunately the M465 Series has manufacturing problems that eventually cause video issues.
Motherboards go for $150 to $200 used on eBay.
But if you do replace the motherboard, how long will it last?
Best to bail on it and get something more reliable and long lasting.

Freeze at startup

If you have an Nvidia or ATI graphics card then they are probably the problem and can only be replaced by replacing the motherboard.
Apart from that this seems to be a motherboard problem ,have you tried with only the battery and vice verca.

Good luck

Bought a Gateway model M465-E on Ebay only to find out the bios is pass-worded so I cant load Win XP because of The infamous "no hard drive error because of the Sata Driver, and i cant get to the...

I'm sorry but I don't know how to reset your BIOS. But to get around your problem, you should be able to enter the boot menu to boot to the optical drive to install your OS.

In order to access the boot options on this notebook computer, press the F10 key while the Gateway screen is displayed during the startup process. This opens a Boot menu with the option to start the computer to any of the available drives. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select a menu option, and then press the ENTER key to start to the selected device.

To "boot" (start) to a CD, DVD, or a floppy disk, the media must be in the drive when starting the computer.

I have a gateway m465 and I just wiped the harddrive... but I don't have the drivers disc...and I can't use it to get on the internet to get the drivers to use it... what do I do

Well Cowgirl,

You're going to need to borrow a friend's computer, make a folder on the desktop with a name like M465 Drivers, go to the site below and download and save them all to that folder. Then, either transfer them to a CD or flash drive and take them home and install them.

Happy Trails

M465-E will not turn on

Simply your RAM or mother board is faulty. Replacing RAM is cheap but repairing Mother board modules is an expensive affair.
