Laptop wifi connection problem

I have a Dell laptop with an internal wifi card and Windows XP. I installed Kaspersky virus-protection software, and it's suddenly able to connect to the Internet, even when I plug it directly into my cable modem with an ethernet cable. My modem and wireless router seem to be working because my VOIP phone service works when it's all plugged together. My laptop also registers my network (ie says the connection is "very good" or "excellent") but the web pages won't load at all. Maybe not relevant but there's some sort of Intel/Proset wireless software that seems to control the connections. Any thoughts? Thanks.

My laptop is a dell latitude d600 it starts up but will not go past the windows xp loading bit then goes back to the start again

Could be a number of issues here.
Can you boot it into safe mode (F8)?
If you can get into safe mode without it rebooting, check to see if any newly installed drivers are causing the problem. (I'm assuming you have not changed the processor etc).
Download and install memtest, this will check to see if you have Ram that is failing.

If you are unable to access safe mode, then try booting from CD using a Linux based boot OS (Ubuntu or Magix), That may give you some idea as to whether it is a hardware fault or a corrupted windows files. (possibly a virus)?

If you have a spare hard drive, try installing that and installing a fresh copy of your OS, again, if this works without issue, then the problem may lie with the original hard drive.

No boot sector on hard disk - No bootable devices - strike F1 to

AFAIK all XP disks were bootable so maybe check your bios options.
If they are correct and it still does not boot them goto and download the floppy setup disks for XP. You could then set your laptop to boot from floppy and install xp from there.

My Internal Wireless Card will not work.

there are none available. somehow its lost its ability to communicate with the driver ,more than likely from a virus that wuold be contained by a virus software update. save your files to a flash drive or disk and run the factory restore disks that came with you pc or run the image program from the hard drive. tutorial to both processes can be seen at the toshiba web site under support

Dell inspron 8100 laptap with windows xp

Try booting with your windows xp installation cd in the drive. See if it will give you a repair or restore option when doing this. If it does not then it's possible your computer has a virus. You can check this by booting up with your anti virus cd in the drive and let it do a system scan. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Wireless Problems!

The computer looks for the cable because wireless is not working.

If wireless card is usb try removing laptop battery, unplugging power adapter and wifi cards, connect in five minutes and see if it works

If it still does not work, reinstall wireless card drivers.
If you have a disk reinstall them from disk.
If you lost the disk download drivers from the Internet, post model on fixya to get the link.

If the wireless card does not work after reinstalling drivers then it is probably faulty.

Note: if you use laptop internal wireless, usually you need to activate a switch to get it working.
