Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I am mounting a rooftop ac unit on a boat.

The existing hole is 22" x 22" and the ac mounting instructions say use a 14" x 14" opening. How is the best way to mount this unit with a water-tight seal?

The best way is to put a piece of metal down on the surface and seal it to the roof and then cut your whole for your ac. Russ

Transducer is throwing up a large Rooster tail.I installed it to instructions

Might help to tell us what kind of boat - deep V hull 22 ft.? bass boat with shallow V hull? Some need the transducer closer to the centerline of the vessel while others do better more outboard, Naturally they need to be flush with the hull no matter where they are located. Depending on the transducer, you could also try properly mounting it inside the vessel near the transom. Good new is you are getting good info from it. Cheers Pete

My Dometic roof mounted aircon appears to discharge the water straight onto the roof. 1) Is this normal operation. 2) Is there a drain tube fitted, and if yes, where would I find it? Assistance will be...

Yes it is normal for AC to drain on to roof as the drain holes are in base of AC unit. The time to worry is when you don't see it draining on to roof, as this indicates holes may be plugged.

How to properly install roof top ac

What make and Model? You basically set it over framed 14"x14" hole, with clean surface, align it properly so gasket is aligned all around hole, install ceiling assy, inside with 4 bolts that extend to unit on roof, and draw it down evenly until gasket is compressed about 1/2 it's original thickness, hook up your wiring, etc. Are you starting from scratch, or replacing another unit?

We have 1 ac & rv is ducted for a 2nd. How hard is it to install?

Normally all wiring required is in the 14"x 14" hole, and installing upper (roof) & lower unit (controls) is very basic. I would confirm what I have in way of wiring available before I start. Some manufacturers will run thermostat wires & hydro to the area, others will only run hydro, which leaves you to run your own thermostat wires, or use ceiling controls on unit.

Drain for a colelam rv air conditioer

It is entirely possible that a five minute test would not produce any noticeable amount of water. Turn off everything in the house that is using electricity and your 20 AMP service will be sufficient to run your AC.

Installation of 57915

Dusty;
Look in the 14x14 hole the ac sets on. See the openings, those are where the air flows through the ceiling. If you block those off you will not get air. The air box kit is for ducted air. If you notice it will direct air to the ceiling ducts.

No pre-existing hole to install a/c unit in rv

A roof top a/c will add about 90 to 100 pounds of weight on the roof. First check w/ the manufacturer to see if it will support the weight. If it will, you will need to cut and frame out a 14" X 14" square hole for most r/v air conditioners check the specs on the air conditioner that you will install. This can be done with a jigsaw (sabre saw). Be sure that you are not cutting into any existing wiring. Once the hole is rough cut, follow the installation instructions for the unit. You will have to have 120 volt ac run to the opening and on some models will also need 12 volt dc
