Sounds like your Condenser Fan located under the refrigerator is not working. The Condenser Fan keeps the Compressor cool and must be operational. It may be stopped up with dirt, etc. or it is just bad. Also check you Condenser Coil for being stopped up with dirt, etc. A vacuum cleaner with a crevice wand will do the job. Hope this helps! Freezer will not freeze ice ceam

Before you go any further it is important that you check for freezer temps. Yes, you have frozen items but remember that water freezes at 32 degrees and many items will get hard at that temp. And also remember that the lower the temp the longer frozen items will keep.

But ice cream needs proper freezer temps close to zero degrees. Use a digital thermostat and check for your freezer temp - bet it it is no where near zero. I had the same problem and attributed it to the fact that I was not using a name brand ice cream!!!! I was wrong ! LOL.

Freezer is cold but not keeping icecream frozen.

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

Freezer gets ice on back wall but wont freeze , fridge either

Hi Brian,

I recommend that you set the freezer to a WARMER setting to avoid getting ice on the back of the freezer. The ice is preventing good air flow over the cooling plate and therefore is not keeping the items in your freezer cold enough. You will need to remove the ice - which can be a daunting task. If you are able to store all your frozen items somewhere else for a while, it would be best to let the whole thing thaw out. I can't find any specs on that fridge, but i would guess that it does not have an automatic defrost, which is, in part, what is causing your problem.

If you are in a humid climate this will happen more frequently - especially if you have the unit outdoors or in an unairconditioned area.

Sears Coldspot 17 frostless freezer not defrosting

One reason for the fan running is that it is trying to distribute the air in the compartment. Look at the very rear of the freezer on the bottom and see if the little vents, which allow water to disperse, are not filled with frozen ice. If so, turn off the fridge (unplug it) and use a hair dryer to melt that ice until it is all gone. That will probably fill the condensation pan under the unit and you'll need to empty it.

Freezer does not seem to keep things frozen in my refridgerator .

probable reason for this is that the thermostat controls freezer temp and freezer follows suit.
if temp in your garage is low ie in winter, then the fridge doesn't need to switch on and the freezer temp rises.
i know this sounds barmy but it is true

Freezer works great, as it should, but fridge is only keeping items room temp. I have the setting at the coldest setting: #7. What is wrong?

Here's what I did, I defrosted! I found out that the fridge temp is monitored and maintained by the freezer. Because we had a power outage one night, my freezer thawed while we all slept and then when power came back on, freezer re-froze but this cause an ice build up on the vent on the back wall of the freezer. Well, ice must have been in one (or more) vents, causing blocked air flow in my top half of the refrigerator. I turned the dial in the freezer to "off" which also shuts down power to the fridge half. I then unplugged the refrigerator, hauled all my food items into coolers, opened the freezer door and refrigerator doors and left them open for a little over six hours. I took advantage of this empty fridge and freezer and wiped everything down. After this time frame passed, I plugged the fridge back in, turned the freezer dial to my preferred freezer temp, and wah-lah! Within two hours I had a cold fridge and solid ice cubes in the freezer. I then put all my food items back into their appropriate compartments, and went to work. Bear in mind, a total 24-hour period is needed for the fridge to re-set itself, but still, after two hours the fridge was noticeably cold. Who knew, besides our parents' generation: DEFROST!

Our Magic Chef fridge model # MCBR1000W does not seem to be keeping the fridge part cool enough, but still keeps the items in the freezer section frozen. The compressor is working, so not sure why this is...

yes the freezer door not closing properly will effect the refrigerator. also check in the freezer back wall and bottom for any frost buildup. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
