My playstation wont play games

You need to press the red button to get the system to turn on. It should show a green light. There will be a blue light next to the green light if you also have a game inside.

Your system is getting hot......Clean the dust from the unit with a vacume...not a can of air, Canned air will only push the dirt further into the unit. also you can buy an intercooler for the ps3 nyco makes one that actually forms to the ps3

do this:
- unplug the AC cord from the wall.
- wait a couple minutes before plugging back in.

if it is a red light.... you have the ps3 equivalent to the rings of death on a xbox 360 meaning it had a serious system crash it has something to do with the gpu and cpu and you must send it back for a replacement as it is unfixable, here what the colors mean, red=dead, green=good, yellow=overheated

Your unit may be damaged. Turn the unit off, unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug in, turn on, press power button. 
If you have the same issue, call sony support for hardware repair.

Sounds like an internal fuse has blown. There are several guides on the net, and a couple forums discussions. Try here:

google it up - if you're not happy repairing it yourself (which needs just a multimeter and a hand full of small, generic fuses) then you'll need to get it professionally mended. which could cost you more than simply buying a new one.

i checked the manual (troubleshooting) 1. turn off PS2 2. unplug it then, plug it back in and turn it on(andprayitstillworks).

Try reseting your PS3. Turn your PS3 completely off by the switch in the back. Then flip the switch back on. Press on the power button and hold it until the green light comes on, beeps twice then the green light should go out, replaced by a red light. Then turn it on normally.
