Question about Dell Inspiron B130 Notebook

1 Answer

Will not detect harddrive

My B130 laptop is hard to get into the startup and boot menus. It absolutely will not go into either setup with a HD installed. Without a HD it will even start loading windows XP OS until it says no storage device present. I ran the diagnostic disc and everything passes the tests! What would the problem be that it will not detect the HD? I have tried other HD's that are good.

Re: Will not detect harddrive

You need to go into the bios (f2) at boot. Configure the drive selections according to the drive you have; sata, ide, etc. It's probly just a wrong setting.
Good luck

Welcome to Fixya

Make sure first that there are no devices plug in to the usb when you boot up the computer. Check if the harddrive is being detected by the computer. Press F2 to go to BIOS menu and see if the computer can detect you harddrive. It should be under the main menu and will say below harddrive. It should give you infromation of the harddrive. If there is no information of the harddrive then the problem there is the harddrive already.

Please reply to this email for any update.

Hi there, please try this trobuleshooting steps. after you push the power button quickly tap the F12 key until you reached too boot options menu. once you are already at the menu, select you Hard drive usually harddrive represent as model e.g WDC **** it means western digital. once you slected the harddrive your computer should boot now to your Harddrive. if else fails, waht you need now is to check if you cmputer was able to detect you harddrive. restart the computer then this time keep tapping the F1 key to enter the utility setup. once inside the setup check your system information under internal HDD if motherboard can detect your harddrive. if yes, then all you need to do there is to use the recovery cd that came with the system then boot your computer from the cd rom then install you windows. If not, then you have to contct your manufacturer. that could be a defective harddrive. please let me know if you need more help.

You can open the harddrive cover to check.

Most likely the drive is broken and needs to be replaced.
Its going to cost you, but take the laptop to a repair service / shop / center.

Thats if you dont have warranty.

You can try reconnecting the harddrive.
But If it already was well connected. Its most likely broken.

Startup your laptop keep clicking f8 until you see option like star in safe mode just click on "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION(your most recent settings that worked)"

Simple as that ;-).

I would say, without looking into it, your hard drive is dead. Yes, you can replace the internal harddrive for another one and just install Windows 2000.
