Question about HTC G1

Unlocked g1 stuck at start up screen with no internet

I bought an unlocked g1 and in an attempt to reset the existing gmail account already programed into the phone I decided to do a factory reboot.  Little did I know that I would get stuck at the start up screen.  When prompted for a gmail account name and password I quickly obliged but without being able to connect to a 3g network I am stuck at the start up screen.  Is there a way that I can bypass this initial boot sequence and enter a gmail account after?

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Open Menu
Choose Settings
Choose Applications
Choose Manage Applications
Select the application called "Google Apps"
Select "Clear Data"
After a little while a notification will popup in the status bar prompting you to se up your Google account info
Enter the new Google account information
Reboot the cellphone

Please be aware you will lose info that is usually synched to Gmail such as your contacts and calendar information!

As an alternative to the above procedure consider doing a "factory reset" (not described here).

After reset , cannot login to gmail

I guess you have factory reset the phone and it swap out everything.

The G1's much-vaunted first step during the setup is to enter your Google login username and password. Once that happens, the G1 attempts to connect to Google's servers to get your email, contacts, and calendar set up.
Here's the thing, though, if (or when) the G1 cannot connect to the servers, you're done. There is no way to exit out of the Google setup screen, no clear way to reset the phone to bypass it (even in "safe mode"), no way to turn on WiFi.

Messed with the pattern lock on accident and now i cant use phone

Wait, when you bought the phone from the guy, did he factory reset it first? i.e. did you have to sign in with your gmail account before using it? If the answer to that is yes, then you shouldn't have to get the other guys details. Did you put in your username as something@googlemail.com? Because you need the googlemail, not just gmail. If the answer to the first question was no, then you could try factory resetting the phone yourself by pressing home and end call together for about 20 seconds till a triangle with an exclamation point and a phone come up, then press alt+l, then select factory reset using the trackball. However this will erase all your text messages, as the phone will be just like it was when it was bought new.

Dont know the user name or password for google to unlock the phone

Remove the battery on the phone and then turn it back on while holding the home and power button at the same time. It should bring you to the bootloader screen. Press Alt+L and then Alt+W to wipe the phone. When you reboot the phone now, you can log into your gmail account, but only if you are a T-Mobile customer with the G1 data plan. T-Mobile doesn't track IMEI's so it doesn't matter if it was reported lost or stolen

1. Turn the G1 off. If it’s frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.
2. Hold the Home and Power keys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle.
Now to wipe the device clean:
3. Press Alt+L.
4. Press Alt+W for a factory reset.
5. Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds.
The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.

PHONE IS LOCKED

you need to factory reset your phone. this website shows you what to do without having to access anything on your phone - the first step is shutting it off. follow these steps and your phone will turn on, the only drawback is it will be like its new, and you'll have to re-download all the apps and stuff. it also has you sign up for gmail, and i suggest that you create a gmail address and write it down so it doesnt happen again :)
