First try doing a factory reset on your modem/router, and if that doesn't work go into the modem/router's configuration via PC and set your PS3 as a DMZ host. This will put the console outside the firewall. Let me know if that doesn't work and we can troubleshoot some more.
if you setup your wireless in adhoc mode like useing the pc wirless it wont work because ps3 doesnt see adhoc wireless.
and for the ethernet connection is the pc setup right. you have to enable internet sharing on the accuall interface that has internet.. If local area connection 1 is connected to internet and local area connection 2 is plugged into ps3 then under local area connection 1 settings you have to set share this connection and in the drop down menu select local area connection 2. other than that you need to buy a router.
Yes, using a longer ethernet cord will work, but the PS3 has a bult-in WiFi card that can connect to any wireless router (you can buy a wireless router from a computer store like BestBuy).
If you are going to buy a wireless router, see if a wireless G-mimo or wireless N with signal boost is within your budget. Try looking through the network settings to see if you can connect through the wireless router.
Or just get a longer ethernet cord and run it directly to the PS3 from the router. Ethernet cords are the most reliable connection, granted you are on a good internet connection, they won't get interference from things like mobile phones, cordless phones, microwaves, TV's etc.
I have both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the only thing I like better about the PS3 is the free online game play and Blue-Ray. Other than that, they're even. Good luck and have fun online! If you find me (wraith0127) say hi! Don't forget to rate. Thank you!
First off do you have wireless internet you trying to get it connected to or are you using a cord straight to your computer/internet plug in, if its connected to a wi-fi try getting the ps3 closer to the wireless box on you computer, if its connected by a cord try using a different cord as the current one you are using may be faulty
The ps3 wifi is very finicky --
While the ps3 scans for a hotspot turn the router off then on so the router aquires the ps3.
Goto settings
Goto network settings
Goto network connection, select enable
Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-
Push yes when it says you may be disconnected
Select wired or wireless
For wireless use scan or enter manually
Follow on screen instructions.
Once that is set up return to main menu and go to network near the right
Then once in the internet browser press triangle and goto file and enter the internet address you would like visit.
If all else fail use the ethernet cable to attach it to your laptop. Then run network setup on the laptop and add the ps3.
