Question about Frigidaire 20.6 cu. ft. / 583 liter Upright Freezer FFU2124D

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire ffu1466gw0 Upright Freezer. It is a frost free freezer and doesn't seem to be cooling properly. Some items seem to be solid enought, but ice cream is melted for the most part. I have the setting on the coolest level and it seems to be getting worse. I would like to know if there is something I can try to fix this without changning out parts, but if not I would like to know what might need to be done. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The Freezer I have does not have the coils visible, so I cannot see them or clean them without taking the fridge apart. Is there something I can do that will not cause me to throw out everything I have in there?

I have seen things saying to remove the defrost timer, or replace the heater for similar problems. This freezer is only 1 1/2 years old. Can I take everything out put it in coolers, take it apart, use a hair drier on the coil and clean them and get it back up and running in a reasonable time?

Is that what my first step should be? I have at least $400 in food in there and don't want to lose it.

If the compressor is running, the fan beside the compressor and the fan in the freezer should both be running, dirty coils can cause a problem. frost buildup on back of freezer wall is indicative of defrost problem.

do you have visible frost build up on the back lower wall? if so, u can take panel off and remove frost with hair dryer. that will give u temp relief. iif that is the problem, u may have a bad defrost heater or defrost timer. if none of the aforementioned things are there, u may have a sealed system problem that may be cover under warranty. check your warranty.

Our Frigidaire frost frost free upright freezer from day one has frost build up on the food inside the packages. The frost is not a problem in the freezer itself, but on the food. Freezer burn occur

Hi Dale Dibb, thank you for your inquiry!

I understand that the food inside of your Frigidaire freezer is getting frost on the inside of the packages. I would recommend turning the temperature up inside of your freezer. Additionally moisture inside of the package would cause frost to develop on the inside of the food packages.

Please assure that all possible moisture has been removed out of the food packages prior to placing the items inside of the freezer. If there is anything else that I can help you with, please feel free to reconnect! -Matt

Frigidaire upright freezer door will not seal

Hi Chris, this is AP! Thank you for your post.

I understand you are having trouble with the door sealing on your upright freezer. Many times this can be caused by the freezer not being leveled. If the freezer is not leveled during installation, the door may be misaligned and not close or seal properly, causing cooling, frost, or moisture problems. To level your upright freezer use a carpenter's level to level the freezer from front-to-back. Adjust the plastic leveling feet in front, 1/2 bubble higher, so that the door closes easily when left halfway open. I hope this information has been helpful.

Frigidaire upright model ffu21k2cw1 frost on top shelf and not cooling properly

Your unit is not self defrosting so I would suggest you do a manual defrost and see if it corrects the problem.
Also make sure that you have good air flow across the compressor.

I purchased this Frigidaire freezer three years ago. Around a week ago, I noticed that the items I had stored in the freezer have begun to thaw slowly. Although the freezer is still "working", it...

Hi,
This is a common defrost problem, The ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. he fan can't blow into ref.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for icw build up. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check evaporator fan in freezer
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
If this was helpful please rate me
Thanks for using fixya

I have a frigidaire freezer upright model#ffu20f9gw3

Without any additional info, there are a lot of possibilities:
1. Condenser coil (underneath unit) is dirty and clogged.
2. Compressor is failing. (need A/C tech)
3. Metering device is clogged. (need A/C tech)
4. Refrigerant charge is low. (need A/C tech)
5. Door seal is broken (frost will form around door).
6. Defrost heaters are stuck on (replace defrost timer located underneath unit at front).
7. Condenser fan has failed (underneath freezer on back).
8. Evaporator fan (inside fan) has failed (ice will form on cooling coil).

This should get you started...

If this helps you, please select YES to the first two ratings questions. Thank you, and Good Luck.
