Once you have purchased a USB hard drive and connected it to the back of the TV you can move on to "pairing" the USB HDD with the TV. Here is how to set up USB recording.
Connect the USB HDD to a free USB port on the back of the TV.
The USB hard drive now needs to be formatted (all data will be deleted).
Most TVs help you to format the USB HDD automatically but on some models, you need to enter the menu and select format HDD (or something similar).
Thanks for posting to Fixya and it is my pleasure to guide you.

You can not record to a DVD, according to their manual. That is why you get the no disc error. It does not have the play sector at the beginning of the DVD. You can record to USB Flash Drive however.

USB RECORD - DIGITAL/FREEVIEW MODE Built into this television is a USB record facility. This function is available in Digital/Freeview mode when used in conjunction with a compatible USB memory stick or USB Hard drive. The benefi ts of this are as follows: • Pause live TV/Radio and then playback, fast forward and rewind (up to live TV) • One button record, if you decide you want to record the current programme • Easy programmable recording from the 7 day TV Guide • Record TV/Radio and watch/listen back on your computer/laptop Due to the nature of the product, it is necessary to use a high speed USB memory stick (as the TV reads from and writes to the memory stick at the same time, some memory sticks may not be suitable). You can purchase high speed memory sticks from some computer stores, alternatively, we have a selection of tested and compatible memory sticks available to purchase directly from the helpline/web site. These are available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. (Please check the web site/helpline for latest specifications and prices). End Quote
Good luck and please post back that you this has solved your problem and click thumbs up of your success or that I can be more helpful.
There is no Digital video recorder built into the TV, so how can you record something unless you have an external DVDR connected?? This TV only had a Digital Tuner built-in.I am sure you are aware the USB is only for playback.
