The shoot button has popped off. It won't stay on the camera. If I stick a needle down the hole it will take a picture, so the camera works fine. It's just the button

Please don't stick anything in there to take a picture, especially a needle!! Your shutter button needs to be replaced, its a very common defect on this camera.

There is only one place that will install a new solid aluminum shutter button post and guarantee it will never break again! How do I know? Because I've been repairing them since 2006 and I own the shop with the aluminum posts!

Shutter button flew off on Christmas day. Luckily was indoors. Found the spring and button, cellotaped together and worked fine until yesterday whilst taking photos, the shutter button suddenly stopped...

shutter mechanism inside may not be in contact with the actual shutter button...or shutter mechanism might have failed altogether.this one's definitely recommended for repair.

Has stopped taking pictures. It will focus and act like it is ready to shoot, but with or without the flash, does not photograph. Everything else seems to be working fine, screen, modes, power, zoom......

Sounds like the tip of the shutter release button has worn off. It's merely a tiny plastic nib that breaks off quite easily and commonly. Replacement of the shutter button is relatively easy. There's a fellow that sells them on ebay, although he's expensive. An inexpensive alternative would be to find a broken A510-570 ebay camera with other issues that you bid at low cost to scavenge this part.

To replace it, you'll need to gently remove the front cover, and push the old release button out from the inside. Cover it with your hand, as it will pop out with a spring. Then merely insert the new button and spring, they just pop in place.

Here's an example disassembly of a similar A560. Also please read this warning on flash capacitor shock, as your camera can really zap you if you're not careful.

The button to depress to take pictures is missing do you know where I can get it repaired?

Actually it's extremely simple to repair. You just reinsert a new shutter button into the hole with its spring. It just snaps in place. Unfortunately, that little part is not inexpensive. There's a fellow who sells them on eBay if you want to pay the price.

Silver button to take picture popped off

If you do a search for "sony h2 shutter button replacement" on Google.com you will find a shop that sells both the shutter button and a repair service to install the shutter as well.

Hope this helps!

How to reattach shutter button

The fix is real easy. No need to take the camera apart.
Order the Shutter Button Release Assembly from Sony. Cost was around $18.00 + tax + Shipping. I received the new assembly in one week.
Note the angle of the old assembly before removing it so that you can line up the new one correctly.
To remove the old button assembly, use a rubber bottle opener to get a good grip. Turn slightly counter clockwise. Then use your fingernail to lift it up. Look inside using a magnifing (sp) glass and find the pieces that broke off, a spring, a small plastic tip and a small snap ring.
Look at the opening and you'll notice two slots, that's where the two little feet will line up. Again using the rubber bottle opener and pressing down slightly, turn the newassembly clockwise. You'll feel it.
Make sure to clean out the pieces that broke off. I couldn't find the spring, now I can't use that little wheel to bring the viewfinder into focus for my eye. LCD is still sharp as are the pictures. Just the viewfinder.
Good luck.

The button used to snap a picture came off.

There's a more detailed description on how to replace this on DSC-H1 section of this website. The replacement part and procedure, is basically, if not, the same. Just use care and caution!
