I've been trying to install any PCI modem to windows xp and no matter what i do it just won't install. I tried installing a Netcomm IN5800 56K V.90 Modem using the drivers supplied on the CD-ROM, but this still comes up as a "PCI Simple Communications Controller" and then moves some files and then every time, comes up as a "could not install, the data is invalid." This also happens when i install another Netcomm Modem as a Lucent Win Modem (It uses a lucent technologies chipset and worked on my Win98 machine.) and comes up with the same error. how do i correct this without running into circles? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
I am not familiar with the Netcomm modems, but a late driver (V8.22) for the Lucent chipset can be obtained from http://www.agere.com/support/c lient/modem_dinstruct.html (Agere bought out that part of Lucent) and if you DL and install the later drivers it should work. I run one of these Lucent modems in two of my machines without problem.

It's not about the drivers, XP will just refuse to accept them. It will always say the "data is invalid" no matter what drivers i load on; official, ones that are "windows tested" or anything. It will still come up as "PCI Communications Controller: Data Is Invalid." Also, in the device manager it shows up as an "Other Device" and "PCI Communications Controller" with a question mark for an Icon. It says it has no drivers, and when it uninstalls, it just stays there.
