Question about GE Microwave Ovens

Fan is making rubbing noise

I have a GE counter top Microwave Convection oven. Model JVM1490WD003. When ever I use the Oven the fan makes a clicking noise as if it is spinning and rubbing against something. As the oven heats up the noise goes away. This does not happen at any other time. It does not happen when I use the Microwave function.

I sounds as if the fan is loose and not spinning properly.

What is the function of the fan? Is this a fire hazard?

Most likely the wiring harness has worked its way into the path of the magnetron cooling fan resulting in the clicking noise. Have a professional open it up and return the harness to the correct location and wire tie it so it will stay put... your microwave will run quiet as ever once the wire is secure and out of the fan's path

I would suggest to open up the unit if it is out of warranty and observe the fan. You may want to unplug the unit when doing the inspection. Once you have access to the fan, if you can open up the panel (you may have to remove some screws in the process) and try to move the fan yourself. You should see where the loose connection is then have it tightened up. If it is not visible, try to remove the fan to do a closer inspection and see the parts to replace or re attach to remove the noise.

Why does my GE Spacesaver Profile, Microwave/Convection Oven, model # JVM1490SD003, in my motorhome, make a clicking noise when I start it up? Sounds like a fan hitting something. The noise goes away

Probably is the fan tapping something. Power it down/DISCONNECT power. pull unit and if there is a cover, remove it. look for the convection fan and see if it free-spins. should find spot where it is hitting and could be adjusted.

Just installed a GE JVM1790 microwave/convection. Microwave works fine, but convection oven makes very loud noise

My bet would be that the convection fan blade is loose on its shaft or has some other problem.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At
our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Microwave convection oven- convection oven will not heat and the fan makes a loud clicking noise.

It may be that the convection fan blade is loose on its shaft, which will keep the heat from getting out well.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

Vent fan noise

I'd say the bearings are getting dry. I'd hit it with a a drop of 3-in-1 oil or sewing machine oil. If you don't have the owner's manual, you can download one here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ It's also possible that the keeper which holds the fan blade assembly may be broken or loose. That could cause the fan to slip and rub. Either way it will have to be disassembled to a degree, probably starting with removal of the grille. Exploded views of this model may be helpful. They can be found at this site: http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ Under 1 select "Repair Part", under 2 select "Microwave" and click "Go". A window will pop up and you'll enter your (complete) model number. Good luck.
