When switched to med or high compressor is on but no fan

The medium and high fan speeds do not operate, the low speed works fine,so there is voltage to the fan motor and the same resistor operates all three fan speeds right? So could the switch be faulty?

Carrier a/c wall unit model #YCB213D.
Low fan speed operates fine. Med and high fan speeds do not operate(compressor operates in med and high)

Here are a couple of things to check.

1. Check for a loose or broken wire on the back of the selector switch on the unit. Be sure to turn the power off first. It's doubtful that this is the problem but it's the easiest thing to check.

2. Next, is the most likely thing. Find the black wire going to the fan from the switch. Use a voltmeter to see if this has power in the various switch positions. It should have power in all positions but "Off", If not, the switch needs to be replaced.

3. If these don't do it, it could be the motor capacitor. Here's a link where you can see how to test this.

Good luck.

The issue can be with the wiring on the fan or the fan may be faulty. I suggest to open up the panel and observe the AC unit while turned on. The fan may be running and some debris such as dirt may be clogging the unit. Check then the wiring and if you have a tester measure if there is voltage at the terminals of the fan. If there is voltage and the fan is not running you can have the fan replaced. If there is none, trace the wire to the control resistor, it may have burned and may need replacing.

How to trouble shoot heat/ a/c fan switch.

Will your blower fan kick on in the medium position by chance? Med/ med high..if it is a 4 position switch, does it operate in the number 3 position? If so it is probably your blower motor resistor. If not, I would test the blower motor itself. Since the compressor kicks on when you turn the fan on, I would think the switch is working.

Fan only works on high

Pull chain switches tend to be flimsy and are a frequent failure item. Your fan switch needs to be replaced.

Fan will not run without starting it yourself and will not run high speed at all

Sounds like an old unit with a bad run capacitor or

check the components on the board for burnt wiring.

Fans on window units are controlled by a 3way switch. High, Med., and low. Your power and in most cases a capacitor which doubles for the compressor and fan.

So it can only be 1 of the 3
Burnt out windings on the motor
Bad switch
Bad capacitor

Ac fan will not run on high setting , manual or auto . when unit calls for high setting fan shuts down . Compressor continues to run and trips breaker in trailer . Someone thinks it may be the motor, but...

Most probably its weak motor. When the motor gets weak it trips/ stops on high setting. On high setting motor needs more power to run the fan.Try lubricate the motor .You may need a few drops of oil on the fan motor bearings. As they get older they get dry and gunked up. If you can see the bearings a few drops of oil may help. --------- Because the fan operates on medium and high, so loose wire or faulty fan switch is very rare to cause this problem.-------- As per the problem , it requires motor to be replaced.--------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Motor will barely run

If it's when you set the remote on med or high, check to make sure the switch on the fan isn't set on low. Turn the remote to high and pull the chain switch to see if it goes faster. Someone may have tried to turn it on or off with the chain, forgetting about the remote. Good luck.

Rear AC fan will not run in lo med or hi, switch or is there resistors on the fan that need checked?

When a blower motor does not turn on in low or med. and only turns on high its usally a resistor block. If nothing works it is most likely the bolwer motor itself or a fuse.

Fan will not run on high. Compressor runs fine but the fan will not run on high. Works fine on low and med.

It's the mode switch contactors for the high setting just overview the wiring of the high cool or high fan contactors if it's not there check all leads for the high fan or high cool circuitry.

Need to replace the switch that has ,hi,low, med off on nit? please Help

you have 3 control wires (the 3 speeds) and a common wire. the common wire will go directly from the fan motor to the power source/cord and the other 3 leads will run through the switch. you could even use a standard dimmer-style lighting rheostat and connect it to the common and "high" fan speed wire and have infinitely variable fan speeds. hope that helps.
