Probablel corrupt partition. Please advise which OS you are using. In windows you can access the drive from disk managerment from where you can re-partition and format it. Keep me posted

If your HDD is being detected in BIOS then I'd suggest you to make it Primary master and install an operating system and try to boot through that HDD. I think that you intending to use this HDD as your pen drive. If this is the case once your HDD has booted after installing software and you can't loose the memory dedicated to the OS you can try formating it on different PC because once it is bootable It will deffinetly be recognised by other Operating systems. Note that HDDs formatted with NTFS will only be detected by Windows. HDDs formatted by MAC will be detected by MAC and likewise for linux also.

1. You need Windows 7 or 8
Earlier OS can support up to 2TB max.
2. Even with Windows 7 or 8, 4TB HDD cannot be used as System

You did not indicate that the 40 Gb hard drive had Windows installed on it and whether it was the original hard disk for this computer.
There is a possibility the 40Gb hard drive is faulty.
Try installing the 40Gb hard drive as a slave drive with the 80Gb drive as the master drive (don't forget to set the jumper on the 40Gb hard drive as Slave. Check the BIOS to see if it detects the 40Gb hard drive, and when the computer boots up, if it can see the 40Gb hard drive and opens the various folders and files, then the hard drive is OK.

Barracuda 7200.7

Hello Sir,
While windows is booting first go to BIOS settings by pressing "Del" or "Esc" then change the boot priority that is save the first boot priority as cd-rom and second boot priority as hard drive... so that you can boot you system with bootable cd...
And then while formating the system just delete the partion that is only "c:/" and install the windows in to that and don't even do anything to your "d:/" drive then you can get all your data back... Abd the cd should be bootable format...

SEAGATE HARD DISK DRIVE PROBLEM...

Hi,

I am venturing a guess, but it could possibly be your memory and not your hard drive.

Additionally, you can partition and format the 40Gb HD in a second PC using a third party utility such as Partition Magic which would also allow you to verify the integrity of the hard drive

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
