The gas float could be sticking in the Carburator. Gas will go down the intake, into the piston, down the cylinder walls and into the oil.

Alot of times the head gasket fails, pumping oil from the bottom of the motor into the cylindar causing blow by. Pumping gas and oil out of the carb. Changing the gasket is easier than you think. It's not like changing one on a car.

SOURCE: Lawn mower chugging

better late than never, I have the same mower

there is no throttle control on these mowers, if you look under the air filter the throttle is balanced by a spring pulling in one direction and a lever controlled by engine speed. if the spring breaks or falls off the lever will wiggle back and forth, more gas if the engine slows, less if it speeds up. you end up going fast/slow/fast/slow etc.

The tension spring slows the switching down and smooths out the engine speed.

Have a GTS 5.5 here, and cannot find the drain plug in order to change the(OLD) oil. Had the blade and cover off,and saw no bolt or plug. Also didn't see a plug on the side. Any help appreciated.

Well If You Cant find drain plug [should be a square drive]

Then I would turn the thing upside down [empty gas tank first of course]& drain it thru the filler plug. Perhaps the drain is an inset hex bolt and you must REALLY clean the underneath, dig around for it!

Do you put oil with the gas in lawn mowers

Most lawn mowers you do not. It should say on the gas cap. I you see a gas cap and a oil dipstick then it would be plain gas. A lot of lawn boorontes oil/gas mix. Hope this helps!

WHERE DO YOU DRAIN ENGINE OIL. SHIELD FOR BELT IS IN THE WAY

What I would do in this case is to run the engine to get the oil warm and to help remove any buildup from the bottom of the oil pan. Then tip the engine over until the oil level check is right above the container that you drain the oil into. Then take out the dipstick and let the oil drain out that way.

Oil change

STOP !

Your lawn mower is has a 4 cycle engine
It does not require oil to be mixed with the gas
The oil for the crankcase should be a 10W-30 or 10W- 40
NO GAS IN THE OIL
What you have is a 2 cycle oil that is mixed with gas for most weed eaters, chain saws, ect
Putting a gas/oil mix in your mower WILL severely damage it destroying the main bearings and could lead to an explosion or fire.
Please be careful

Oil change in yard man lawn mower. i am unable to find a drain plug

Some mowers are designed to drain oil out of the dipstick tube. remove dipstick and tilt the mower to allow oil to run out into a drain pan. 2/3 rds of a quart or 20 oz is what to expect.
