Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I'm getting no power to my ac clutch. I have a 1994 GMC sierra

With the AC off I'm reading .4v on the clutch power plug. When you turn the AC on the power onlt jumps to .6v. When I jump 12v to the clutch from the battery the clutch will engage fine and the AC cools like a champ. I found a switch relay behind the glove box and switched it out with another of the same part number from the truck. I still get the same results at the clutch.

Either it is under charged or the pressure switch is bad.

the inner part of clutch will or will not spin. the belt runs on a pulley that has a electro magnetic clutch that will turn the shaft of the compressor. you should clearly see the clutch on the outside of the pulley turn that part with engine off by hand is should turn,,,

Check the radiator fan to make sure it is turning at full speed. Could be a bad fan-clutch.

"How to remove and replace a AC Clutch on a 1994 GMC Sierra 5.7?"

depending on witch compressor you have they all are very straight forward , just remove the screws that hold the out side plate to the electric clutch and find the screw that holds everything together in the center ,remove it and it should slide out with no problem. get a replacement and install it the reversed way

1992 gmc c1500 ac compressor relay location Currently there is no power to the low pressure switch on the accumulator. AC clutch will engage if powered with a jumper wire.

I pulled this from another web site
"The AC clutch relay is located inside the cab on a metal bracket that is easiest to see when you remove the glove box compartment.

The relay is on a metal bracket bolted to the top of the plastic air box, forward and to the center of the dash from glove box.

There are three relays in a row on that bracket. The AC clutch relay is the end one closest to the driver’s side."
