Probably a hole in the diaphragm in the switch. It could be loose also. With the compressor unplugged, try to tighten the screws on the bottom side of the switch (usually in a circular pattern). This might fix it, or you may wind up having to replace the diaphragm, or just replace the entire switch.

Compressor initially starts up and fills tank to 120 psi with no problem. Compressor shuts off. When a tool is used the compressor tries to kick back on but hums and won't turn pump. If the "off"...

There is a small valve on the pressure switch that should relieve the pressure between the compressor and tank check valve. Make sure when pressure switch trips, it engages the relief valve and it bleeds the air out. Sometimes the valve itself comes loose and is not engaged by the lever in the pressure switch.

Something is wrong with your "unloader" I should think. That is the device that removes the pressure from the cylinder so the machine does not have to start up against its full air pressure
There will be a narrow air pipe connecting the compressor to the switch assembly which bleeds off the air when the power is off. That hiss you get when you turn it off or it turns itself off.
I think you will find a leak there or possibly the non return valve that stops all the air escaping when the unloader valve is open has failed or got a foreign body stuck in its seating.

The air compressor continously bleeds out air from the area near the on/off switch. Any ideas of what is wrong with it or where to look for the problem?

If the side of the on off switch has a copper tube going to it it could be that the unloader valve is leaking continuously. Spray some wd 40 on it. Or the unloader may need to be adjusted. There should be two small jam nuts holding the unloader to the pressure switch. Loosen these nuts and shift the unloader away from the lever. Re tighten the jam nuts.

Air leak after reaching 150 psi & shutting off

Everything I read in the owners manual suggest you take unit in for a trained service tech to repair. It could possibly be a few things causing this but from what I can see there are not that many replaceable repairable parts for this. Good luck
