Hazve you removed the partition? Prior to formatting Windows askes if this is the partition you wsant to use and shows a figure of value = to the space. It then asks if it should DELETE the partition, select Yes or press the required key "d" it then givesd you the option of creating a new partition yES then it should go to format.

It is rare that a drive wont format a new partition unless there is a mechanical problem.

Install XP using a CD and start the setup from CD
when you are asked to do something on your harddisk, first you delete existing partition and create new partitions, then you do a full format.

hope this will solve your problem.

Note : Boot your system from Windows XP Installation CD / Restore CD

Most likely the issue is that the driver for the SATA hard disk is not being loaded at the start of the installation. If you have a recovery disk from Dell this shouldn't be an issue, otherwise it will be.

If you have a floppy, it's easy to handle - just load the drivers on a floppy and when you see a prompt that says "Press F6 to load 3rd party disk or RAID drivers", hit F6, insert the disk, and follow the drections.

If you don't have a floppy or a recovery disk, it's no fun trying to make this work with a USB stick but it's possible. Dell has a utility that is supposed to work but it's flaky. I'd recommend getting them to send you a duplicate recovery CD.

I believe this is a desktop system? Go to MacAfee on another PC and download their bootable virus recovery software to media that you can put in to that PC. Then boot up, it should clear the virus and get you on the road to recovery. It's nice that viruses can't infect our CDs too.

After a virus infected my Dell dimension 2350 (XP), I replaced the hard drive with one running Windows 7. After increasing my RAM, I still have some serious resolution problems on my Samsung 172N moni

Hey Tim,.
Once you installed Windows 7 onto the hard drive you would need to have installed the drivers. The one driver that is needed for resolution is the video card. You can right click on the desktop and then choose screen ressolution to see if you can change the resolution. Unfortunately, Dell does not have any Windows 7 drivers for the Dimension 2350 system.

Thank You,

If this just occurred recently ( at the most 1 week ago) then you can try to restore your computer to a previous state. Copy and paste following link into your internet browser for details:

Since it's a Dimension 2400 PC Desktop I assume you have Windows XP OS.

It's because due to system worms and and trojans viruses it can affect your administrator account via automatically changing your password. best advice reformat your hard drive or fully scan your system through a licensed anti virus so that it will get rid all system malfunctions and viruses.

How do i flash bios on my 2400 Dell Dimension

Your sister has a vivid imagination. Changing the memory and flashing the BIOS will chane nothing.

If you want to start from scrath then reformat the hard drive and reinstall the system but as you probably don't have a system backup disc this will prove impossible for you.

Your best bet is take it to your local PC shop (I don't mean the mainstream ones) and they will be able to restore your system.

You've learned a valuble lesson the hard way here. Always have a good antivirus programme installed, make sure it is up to date and do a full scan on a regular basis.

One thing to try is this:

When the pc starts to boot up from the disk, and you get to the point where it asks which partition to install Windows, go ahead and delete all partitions (unless one has the restore image, or you just want to keep a separate partition), or just the main big one. Now follow the instructions to create a partition, and make it as big as desired, again depending on weather you want two, or just one large one. Now tell the pc to install Windows on the newly created partition and see what happens.
I am trying to help, so please don't rate me, UNLESS I fixed it. Thanks!

Xp format problem

Assuming that you have both XP's on the drive, when it boots up, have you selected and tested both? OR

Did you format the entire drive and wipe the old system off, replacing it with the new install?

The simplest why to fix is to boot up on the Pro CD and format the entire drive and install new system. It sounds like your old info may still be there, but you can't get to it. Try the different boot option and burn your desired data to keep to a cd, then do the simplest. Don't worry about the system drivers, you can recover them from the restore cd or download them from the Dell.
The Pro XP will be able to recover your system enough to get the drivers on line.

No big deal, just time consuming.

Good Luck
