They play beautifully in any DVD player except the one I burned them with. I get the same "no disc" message, and Creative Disc Detector is useless. However, it will play store-bought DVDs and any CD, store or home-made.

- I always use only DVD-R, and I use region 1 (NTSC). The Pioneer is capable of dual-layer and burning for up to 2 hours. Since I have 230 home-made DVDs and suddenly any disk I've burned with the burner is not recognized tells me that the firmware may be at fault. Bummer beacuse there is no firmware available past ver 1.41 for that unit. The strange thing is, the DVDs play in my stand-alone DVD player with no problem. In addition, store-bought discs and music CDs, whether home or store bought play beautifully on the Pioneer and are recognized with no problem.
Are you burning the files with a DVD+R format. Use DVD-R. Not all players will recognize DVD+R. Also, check the region that the movies are made in and see if the player can be switched to that region. Also, are you trying to burn files larger than 700 MB. If you are, in creating an iso image or copy if you are downloading the file you have to match the checksum of the original file to the downloaded one.

- When you were burning any of the discs, did you have a blackout or power outage of any kind. This is a long shot, but if you were burning at the time this happened, the firmware could have been erased. Did you try to apply the firmware again?
If you did and it is still not recognizing, then the firmware ROM chip is shot and there is nothing else you can do. All drives ROM communicates with the BIOS. If your BIOS on your system is up to date, then you will have to get a new drive. I know that pioneer drives are expensive.
Also, if a burner is more than 8 month, they experience problems. It doesn't matter about make or model.

I have had the DVR-109 for about 2 years, bought it new and installed it on my Dell Optiplex. I have had little to no problems copying and burning dvds with it, and the copies work great in my stand alone players, but recently, it has been giving me real issues. It has no problem recognizing store bought dvds, and in the past, burned dvds too. But now, when I put any burned DVD in, I get....nothing, absolutely nothing, try to play the DVD and it says "no disc". I explore the DVD and there appears to be nothing on it. Is this a driver issue, firmware, or has it crapped out? please help. thanks
