Your thermocouple needs replacement. Its the thin tube next to the pilot, it runs alway back to the gas control valve. When it fails the gas valve won't allow the gas to flow. Turn the gass off before begining repairs, and NO OPEN FLAMES OR SMOKING!

Hot surface igniter will glow and put out a flame but is not a blue/orange flame

First you need to get a nice blue steady flame to prove to the ignition module there is flame. Check you orifice and bypass tube.

Oven igniter works but oven doesnt lite. Strong smell of gas also. Stovetop works fine. Whats wrong!!!?

replace the ignitor, even though trhe ignitor glows orange its getting weak and cant pas enough current to open the gas valve to supply enough gas to fire the venturi tube,so it supplies gas but wont ignite this is where your odor is coming from

My oven a GE XL44 worked well last Thanksgiving but the next day the oven won't light up. I opened up the oven and could see the pilot light was on but the bar where the fire comes out has no fire in it....

you have a bad ignitor.even though it's glowing doesn't mean anything.it works with amps.3.2 amps opens the gas valve and then it ignites.

Igniter will heat up (glow), and oven may or may not light for 5 minutes (with igniter glowing). After heating, and stabilizing...once the oven starts to cool, igniter will glow again, and may or may not...

The stove should not take over 3 minutes to light. Even if the ignitor is glowing it is impossible to really tell if it is ok or not. When the ignitor heats up it's resistance drops, this allows for the amp draw to get to 3.2 amps or better and that opens the bi-metal inside the oven valve. The oven circuit consists of a control to regulate temp, a safety valve, a ignitor, and a burner. Any open component and the oven will not fire off. If all the components have continuity and the ignitor is glowing, but no joy, I would replace the ignitor. Usually the ignitor gets dim when it is weak and it takes a long time to light off and you might even have to bump the stove and get it to come on. Replace that ignitor.

The oven burner will not ignite.

Because the glowbar is glowing does not necessarily make it good.
Turn off the gas to the stove. Remove the oven racks. Remove the bottom oven pan. Remove the flame spreader. This gives you access to the glow bar and gas valve.
Put a clamp on amp meter around one wire of the glowbar. Turn the oven control on to BAKE.
If the glowbar reads 3 amps or less, replace the glowbar ignitor.
If the glowbar reads good, check the burner tube for a white ash buildup. It can be cleaned with a wire brush. Look closely near the glowbar section of the burner.
Check all the wire connections for the gas valve.
If the glowbar is good and the ash deposits are gone and the oven still will not ignite, the next step is to replace the gas safety valve.

My gas oven won't fire up

could be a ton of things but the usual suspect is the hot surface igniter. take out the oven panel that is in the bottom of the oven usually just sitting in there or maybe a screw or two. watch carefully when you turn on the oven. the igniter should glow bright orange. if it doesnt, it is most likely bad. 90% of the time its just the igniter.

Oven will not fire up fgf354bgwc

Hi, The ignitor could still be bad even if it glows. It is a very common problem on the gas reanges. The ignitor is getting so weak it will not open the gas valve.
I hope this helps you understand what is happening. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Oven & hob taking a long time to come on(on FULL pressure)

Hello mick1939. Are the ignitors the clicking/sparking type or the glow bar type?
If they are the glow bar type, when they get older they don't send enough amps to the gas safety valve thus only letting a small amount of gas to the burners. Try replacing them if they are glow bars.

Oven not working properly

I just solved this problem with my GE gas range. I waited forever for the oven to warm up. The igniter would glow, light the burner and burn for a minute or so and go out. It would repeat this process till oven reached operating temp, which took forever. Problem is in the igniter. It may be glowing, but it is not letting the gas valve stay open, because it is not hot enough to create resistance in it to keep gas valve open. I had replaced the thermostat thinking it was the problem. The good part about it was I could take it back because my buddy works at supply house. Once the igniter was replaced, the oven fired up and stayed lit till operating temp was reached. It will also hold the oven temp much better. Oh yea, the igniter will stay glowing while the burner is on. Hope this helps.
