SOURCE: we have a hunter type 2 ceiling fan installed on a bedroom ceilin
Okay. Turn off circuit breaker. Take the bottom off the fan. Mark how the wires are connected. Remove switch by unscrewing the sleeve you mentioned. Take the switch to Home Depot (or the like) -- buy a replacement.
If you have to turn the breaker back on during this process, make sure you have a wire nut over the end of each of the loose wires you disconnected from the switch.
After you take the switch out, you'll know how to reinstall it, so I won't go thru that.

SOURCE: Hunter fan/light with remote installed turns on by itself
Many times this is caused by stray frequencies in the neighborhood. And, sometimes changing the frequencies on the remote and receiver reduce the occurrence.
But it sounds like this may not be the case, here. If not, the receiver in the fan is the culprit and should be replaced. No danger, just annoying.

it also could be one of the the jumpers fell out of the remote
they are located just above the battery. you will need to match the placement of the jumpers with the receiver mounted in the fan.
