Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook
Not exactly flicker. The screen on by HP pavilion goes black. Sometimes it can be "reactivated" by quickly punching the "lid close button". It does not seam to be any kind of physical bad connection that can be affected by moving the lid, tapping the notebook, or hitting it with a sledge hammer, etc. When the room lighting is right, the screen image can be seen, indicating that it is a back-light issue. Sometimes it does flicker and seems to coordinate with the hard drive light flicker. This has been a problem for two years or more. Fred
Hi, i noticed that when I unplugged my HP the screen stopped flickering. I then re-plugged in the power, when to the Nvidia control settings, to PowerMizer, and changed 'ac outlet' to Maximum Power Saving.
Not the world's greatest solution, but hey, working laptop now.

Got 2" of snow today. Oh, well! Spring is only 5 months away.
My suggestions, from least to most probable are:
1-LCD display cable, loose or damaged.
2-Lid close button, may be loose or bad.
4-LCD lamp inverter, connector loose or bad board.
Did this info help?

SOURCE: hp Laptop screen flicker
I am sure that the issue is related to the cable that connects to the LCD Display or the LCD Backlight.
There should be some connection shortage because of which the LCD flickers few times as stated by dan231.
I Recommend you to get the Notebook examined as soon as possible before something really goes wrong...
