I am using the HP solution center software in German for scanning. I am going to "Dokumente Scannen - scan documents" and it opens a widow where I press "Schwrzweiß - black/white", "In Datei speichern - save in document", "Dateityp pdf - file type pdf" and then I change the ppi in a new window at 200. I don't find a place where I can set the scan size to the letter formtat. When I am scanning two pages both pages have different format, I want to have all pages the same size, and this would be the letter size of 216x279mm.

Are you using the HP scanning software or just doing a 'direct' scan? When you do copies does it do the correct size?

Most scanners in my experience do not scan to "precisely" 8 1/2 X 11 inch letter size (assuming that was the original paper size).

A workaround is possible with some graphic programs. After importing the original incorrect scan of the document into the software a combination of resizing and/or cropping (depending on how your program works) will allow getting the exact dimensions. Then save as a new image document. Make sure to adjust for sufficient resolution (a larger document) if you plan to reprint.

if you press menu, and then network, scan to ftp or w/e, you can setup profiles here click ok, and down arrow to glass scan-size, from here you can choose A3, A4, letter, ledger, etc. set your profile and when you scan select the appropriate customized profile!

Cannot scan legal size document with windows 7

Of course it can't . Since the maximum scan size is 8.5 x 11.7 inches it cannot scan a document that is 8.5 x 14 inches which is legal size. To do legal size you must either have a large-format scanner so the glass size is large enough, or have an all-in-one that has an auto-feeder. Those use a different scan bar from the feeder and can do legal documents.

Using HP4180 on windows 7. When I scan it saves file on letter size format. How can I crop or change scan size befor saving?

you might need to change the settings on the document/s letters before scanning depending on which program you are using to make this document ?
lift the lid on your scanner lay the photo face down then select scan document/photo it will ask what format you want to scan it then it will ask where you want to save it browse select the file/folder where you want to save it (my pictures) most common
if you need more help with this post a reply
hope this helps

Change legal size to letter size

scan it as a document, re-scale it in required size and save then print in required size.

these adjustments are in your word or office programs. if you need to make it to copy, insert your original in the scanner, in paper tray insert your letter paper, select copy and then re-size, this should do it "on the run".

HP 2727 scans first page as letter size and all other pages as legal size. I want all letter size.

Solution found: Change the scan default format to Tiff, but then save the document as PDF on the workstation. We think this is a newly discovered but unintended feature of the newest hp scanner software package.

I can't get my printer to scan a legal size document, but have no problem with a letter size.

When you get your control panel for the document, you need to change the configuration document size. In mine, Legal comes right after Letter.

Scanned documents too large

When you scan them, save them as a different type of document. Try saving them as a web document. They will reproduce almost as good and will be a lot smaller in size (bytes, not inches).

Won't recognize legal size paper

I have a Brother MFC-8840Dn (full legal-size flatbed as well as document feeder). I use Windows XP Pro and a USB connection. I'm not sure my fix works with other Brother models or different Windows operating systems, but it's a way to start troubleshooting at least.

I've always been able to print legal-sized pages from word processing or spreadsheet programs and receive legal-sized faxes. But I never could make legal-sized photocopies or PDF scans. The image was always cut off at Letter size. The fix is a Brother Utility set-up setting:

*** Go to Start / All Programs / Brother / MFL-Pro Suite MFC 8840Dn / Scanner Utility. (This link may also be called something like Scanner Settings.)
*** At the "Maximum Scanning Size", select "Legal" instead of "Letter/A4".
*** Click OK and restart your PC for the new setting to take effect.

It's like magic -- I can now scan a full legal-sized PDF, whether on the flatbed or through the ADF. I also tried a compressed TIFF scan and it came out fine.

**** Make sure your software and/or Brother Control Center scanning configurations are set to Legal if that's what you want for the particular image scan. The Brother Utility setting simply enables the option of choosing the larger legal-sized paper, which then allows the full legal-sized image scan, You always have to set your software to make that choice, just as you would to make and print smaller images on Letter, A4, envelopes, etc. (NOTE: I always start scans through software on my PC, like Adobe Acrobat or PaperPort, and the Utility Setting fix is working fine. However, I just tried pressing the SCAN button on the front panel of the MFC itself with a legal-sized document on the flatbed and through the document feeder. I still got Letter-sized image scans. So, there must be another setting somewhere for starting scans directly from the MFC that I'll locate later.)

I was about to buy a different brand of scanner because of the frustration with legal-sized images. It's like having a new scanner now :) I hope this Utility Setting info helps you troubleshoot your legal-sized image problem.
