I have exactly the same problem, my new laptop with Windows Vista Basic, doesn't recognize my sansa e250, I checked on their main page and there's no new driver for vista. I send a message to the support page, they doesn't answer me. I had a Old PC with XP, and it worked perfectly, but now I'm having those problems.

Change to MSC mode to use with Windows Vista.
Q: How to change to MSC mode:
A: On your Sansa device, press "menu" and go to "Settings" then "USB" choose "MSC".

Then plug it in. My computer finally recognized it.

Plug it in to the back of the computer also worked for me. There is apparently a difference on storage devices on many computers between the front and rear usb ports for certain types of storage devices. I had the same issue w/ a USB dvdrom drive, trying to get it to boot properly.

You can download the appropriate driver from

You need to use the Sansa Media Converter program to convert videos (and photos) to a format the Sansa can handle. If you don't have the SMC, you can download the Windows version from

My sansa mp3 player isn`t recognized by the computer

It may depend on your operating system, but there are known issues in vista. There is also a hotfix from microsoft. This is from the Sansa Website FAQs at http://www.sansa.com/support/sansa_clip/faqs

My Sansa player is not recognized by my computer when I connect it.

The most common reason for this problem is not having the latest Windows Media Player installed, or having a Windows OS version that is not supported by the Sansa player.

The Sansa players support Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista and above. If your operating system version is supported by the Sansa player:

SOLUTION 1 – Download and install the latest Windows Media Player

SOLUTION 2 – If that didn’t help, and you are running Windows Vista, apply the following hotfix - KB940199

SOLUTION 3 – If that didn’t help, download and Install the MTP Porting Kit (click here)

SOLUTION 4 – If that didn’t help, try connecting the device to the PC using MSC mode

On the Clip: Go to Settings > USB mode & choose MSC

I hope this helps and please don't forget to rate my answer.
