Revolutions per minute and is read from the turbine shaft in the transmission
it reports the input drive shaft speed to the TCM so that the TR knows to change ratios
the engine rpms engine revolutions per minute are recorded on the tachometer in the dash so don;t confuse the two different readings
take it to an accredited auto transmission shop to have the sensor replaced

2002 Nissan Frontier 4 cylinder. Sometimes while driving it, when you give it gas, it won't go but the RPMs goes up.

If it is a manual gearbox, the clutch needs replacing.

If it is an automatic, check the transmission oil level. If the level is okay, you need a transmission specialist.

WHAT DOES AUTO MEAN

Probably referring to gearboxes
A manual gearbox in a car requires a clutch that has to be disengaged when changing gear. This is done by a pedal operated by the drivers left foot. So a manual car has 3 pedals.
An automatic or auto gearbox does not have a clutch so there is only 2 pedals.
The auto car is started with the gear lever in P for Park and then moved to D for Drive. All gear changes are done automatically

98 Nissan maxima. Have to run rpms all the way up before it shifts. after it shifts it runs good. Can anyone help?

Check your gearbox oil level, sounds like a possible synchro problem in the gearbox, I would suggest having it checked out a.s.a.p.

When I push the gas pedal the car doesn't go but just revs and the RPMs go up then after a while the car jerks and starts to go. It's an automatic. What's wrong with it?

hi.
it sounds like the transmission fluid could be low.
there should be a dipstick or a level plug for the transmission fluid on the front of the gearbox.
if the level is low, top it up with the automatic transmission fluid.

if the level is ok then it may just need changing, or there could be an internal fault in the gearbox.
a mechanic would have to actually see the car to advise you further

Shift prob from 1rst to 2nd

This often happens because of faults in the gearbox. If it automatic transmission can also be caused by a faulty throttle position sensor.
