Samsung ML1860 monochrome printer. The cartridge and chip have been replaced before with no problem, but this time when I print there is toner all over the pages and some loose inside the machine. It improves a little if you leave it powered up for a day before printing, but the prints are still grey and no good.

This is a fairly common problem, caused by a faulty black developer roller. I spoke to Samsung about mine, when it was 1 day out of the warranty and explained it started happening three weeks before (which was true). It had about 1,300 page count, when fuser kit should last 20,000. An engineer visited next day and replaced the roller, as well as a cautionary replacement of the paper pick-up rubber. Print is back working fine now. Chatting to engineer, the rollers have been modified now, so the fault must be causing concern. He said he's got another ten coming in stock tomorrow. Keep the previous toners, as they will still work once printer is fixed. I must say, Samsung support is excellent (the reason I bought from them!), so speak to them and so what they will do.

Reputable or not, every once in a while you get a bad one (even originals). It's obviously defective. Return for a replacement
