Check the brush roll ends, make sure they turn freely, if not then replace it. The belt may look ok, but they stretch after a short time and should be replaced.

OK - so your brush roller is jammed. And yes, the belt is melting! Unplug the machine, remove the belt (you will need another new one anyway) then see if you can turn the roller by hand. If it turns freely without you doing anything else, then you may have put the new belt in incorrectly. However, you will probably find you can't turn it, or it's hard work (it should rotate freely). Remove the roller and check the bearings - there may well be something tangled up at one end of the roller. If you can get the roller rotating freely, all should be well.
Good luck

Possible Solution: I had the same problem with my Powerforce vacuum. Please take note that I AM NOT a vacuum cleaner repairman, nor have I played one on TV. Try taking your beater bar out, and if it looks similar to the one pictured (Model#203-1195), get a cresent wrench. Look at the end of the beater bar one will be squared on the sides to hold the shaft inside statonary. Take the wrench and adjust it to fit the nub on that end. Grab the bar in the center, and turn the end with the wrench. Mine popped and came loose, then it could be turned by hand. A little light oil allowed to run into the end cap, turn it up and spin it a few times to let the oil work down the inside and put it back on. Mine works fine for now. Good Luck!!

I bought my parents the exact same model. Do you have the floor select switch "ON" for the brush? Did the overload protector switch trip? There is a little red button sticking out from the right hand side of the head. Check to see if it is pertruding past the cover. If so, push button in and it should reset.

Hi There,
Actually I just answered a question almost identical to yours! The belt on his model continiously snapped also.
I walked him through how to check the problem, and he was able to get his vacuum fixed. It really sounds to me like your brush roller has gone bad as well.
