You can also set the brush to the middle setting of the special/ normal brush settings. Also, your micro-sweep blade might have popped off making it very hard to push in that direction. The micro-sweep is the plate held by two screws right below the intake with the little blade that sticks up.

This is the clutch as it jams up in the brush. Usually happens with rugs that are not secured to the floor.

I've had my Hoover S3755 for about 2 years and loved it, at least until the last couple of months when the "belt slipping off" problem started. I changed the belt and the vacuum would work for a little while then the belt would come off again. I put on a new belt again and within minutes the belt had slipped off. I took it to my local vacuum repair about 4:00 in the afternoon. By 4:45 I got a call from the repairman that he'd fixed my vacuum! What did he do? He put a different belt on it. He put a Rainbow belt on my Hoover that's thicker and doesn't have as much "give" as the Hoover belt. It's also a little bit wider than the Hoover belt. Now when the brush slows or stops at a carpet edge the belt doesn't slide off.

The beater bar will turn itself off if something became lodged in the brushbar area - it turns itself off so that it doesn't cause any further damage. If this is the case, recline the machine, turn it on and press the gray button next to the red power button. This is the brushbar's ON/OFF switch. If that doesn't solve the problem, call the Dyson helpline for further assistance.

They make the worst machines, the rollers are cheap and they make it so you cant take them apart to clean them. You don't want a dyson either, they aren't any better for pets. With all that hardwood floors you should get a good canister vacuum, sebo and miele are the best.
