Dell 1720 lazer printer only printing solid black pages
This printer is only a year old and started printing only black pages. Both the cartridge and the drum have been replaced, thinking this would solve the problem. However, it continues to print solid black and only a portion of the selected image is showing through on the top portion of the page.

The corona wire is not charging the drum properly. Try pulling the toner cartridge out and then re-seating it. If this doesn't work, try a new toner cartridge as the corona wire is usually included in the cartridge.
If you are using a refill toner, there's an outside chance that the supplier put toner with the wrong electric charge in the cartridge. Again, changing the cartridge should fix this(assuming the replacement is from another batch).

Hi, Worn out print heads,causing the problem they needs to be replaced. Compare the cost of the new heads to the price of a new printer ,then make you decision.
Why not try a black & white laser printer for years of trouble free service.
Whenever I have a customer tell me their printer seems to be running slower, 9 times out of 10 its what they're trying to print...not the printer. Heres a couple of things to do and ask yourself. First I'd do a test print from the printer itself. Does it kick it right out? Then go to the printer folder on the computer, right click on the printer, go to properties..click print test page. Does that come out pretty quick? Okay if they seem relatively fast then its beginning to look like something other than the printer. Try printing the job that seems to run slow. Then try printing from a different program. Is there a difference in speed? The job that prints slow may have graphics or require more memory then it use to. Perhaps you changed the graphics content on the page and the printerr is taking more time to process it. Adding more memory to the printer can help that.
Did you make any software change to the printer about the same time you noticed the slow down?
Have you changed the font color in the computer to something other than black for that particular print job? I've seen monochrome (black and white) laser printers slow down because its trying to convert the job to say violet or some other color. Its a black text printer and apparently printing color confuses it ..lol My bet is..if you really sit down and think back...something changed in the content of what your printing thats taking it longer to process it. A technique to improve print quality is to try and clean the cartridge nozzles. You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below:
1. Go to the "Lexmark solution center." This can be done by clicking on "Start," go to "Programs" and Lexmark printer group. Click on the "Lexmark Solution center." Next click on the "Maintenance" Tab. 2. Select "Clean and Fix Horizontal streaks." Click on "Print". This will produce a printed page.
The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps.
If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below:
1. Please open the "Solution center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab. 2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer. 3. Get a damp paper towel. 4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds. 5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean. 6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing. 7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer. 8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install." 9. Repeat the "Clean Nozzle Page" one more time. If this fails to address the problem the entire procedure may need repeating.
sounds lke your yellow nozzle not working properly...had same issue on lexmark printer, ended up geting this epson...learnt from my mistakes...perhaps it ran dry? or you left the yellow cartridge out longer than the rest....only you might know what happened
