Power problem with my KDC-M7024

Recently when i turn my M7024 CD player on, the front panel flips down, but then all the lights go off and it closes back up as if it were to switch off but then opens up and closes. it just repeats this over and over. My initial thought is that the ribbon cable that runs to the flip panel has broken. What do you think? If so, is it easy to change and where can I find these cables to buy? Many thanks

I have just stripped my CD player down and have come to the conclusion that it is the ribbon cable. Does anyone know where i can purchase one?

The part number for that cable is

This other cable going from the other display to the main board should also be replaced at the same time.

You can verify the part number by looking right on the cable, it is on the very end of the cable on the part that overlaps the connector the cable plugs into.

Only places i know that sell them are authorized kenwood servie centers. There should be one in your area.

please give me a "fixya" if this helps.

Almost forgot, ther is also another common problem with this type of radio.
The micro switch that is next to the gears that move the display in and out wil sometimes be out of postion or more accuratly, the lever that depresses the switch will get worn a little and not press the switch in completely. This can be fixed by carefully unsoldering the switch and moving it closer to the lever by about 1/16 of an inch and resoldering it into place. or you can order the lever and replace it, but you need to be able to re-align the gear that moves the lever properly or it will open too soon or too late.

If this is the problem, it will turn on and open, then close back up and turn off very quickly.

I can give you more information if you need it. Just coment on the post.

can I get more info about this problem and maybe some photos of the microswitch. Stereo was working until a couple of days ago, only problem was that the screen tilt could not be adjusted. When I pressed the tilt button the screen would tilt fully outwards and then back in again.

Now when I turn the stereo on, it opens partially and then closes and turns off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to flip the front panel down first and there will be an eject button on the inside of the panel. If this is not working try pressing the tiny reset button which is left of the ATT button.

If you mean that the rotating cover has flipped back round covering up the control panel turn on the ignition and push the top left of the panel. this should make the cover flip back around and make the interface available.

TOC Error

I had the same problem with my KDC-M7024 CD player. All I done was put a cleaning disc into the player and let it play for 2-3minutes. The disc has a small cleaning brush on it which spins around like a normal CD would and as the bristles pass over the laser it removes any dust. After that it worked fine but i still have to run the disc through every 3-4 months or the problem persists.
