Power problem with my KDC-M7024

Recently when i turn my M7024 CD player on, the front panel flips down, but then all the lights go off and it closes back up as if it were to switch off but then opens up and closes. it just repeats this over and over. My initial thought is that the ribbon cable that runs to the flip panel has broken. What do you think? If so, is it easy to change and where can I find these cables to buy? Many thanks

The part number for that cable is

This other cable going from the other display to the main board should also be replaced at the same time.

You can verify the part number by looking right on the cable, it is on the very end of the cable on the part that overlaps the connector the cable plugs into.

Only places i know that sell them are authorized kenwood servie centers. There should be one in your area.

please give me a "fixya" if this helps.

You need to flip the front panel down first and there will be an eject button on the inside of the panel. If this is not working try pressing the tiny reset button which is left of the ATT button.

You have a bad ribbon cable, very common on these units (That's why they don't make them anymore) If you don't have a local repair shop you can call Auto-Sound in Louisville, Ky 502-448-5606. will be about a $90 fix.

If you mean that the rotating cover has flipped back round covering up the control panel turn on the ignition and push the top left of the panel. this should make the cover flip back around and make the interface available.

TOC Error

I had the same problem with my KDC-M7024 CD player. All I done was put a cleaning disc into the player and let it play for 2-3minutes. The disc has a small cleaning brush on it which spins around like a normal CD would and as the bristles pass over the laser it removes any dust. After that it worked fine but i still have to run the disc through every 3-4 months or the problem persists.

My head unit is awkward.

Check the wire braid going out to the faceplate. Although this is a fancy feature. it is very problematic. But usually it looks like a flat plastic strip with brown stipes on it. Sony calls it a flexible circuit board. after so many flips wires break the buttons stop working and when the face gets just is the right place it stops turning. but is repairable if you can order the braid from Kenwood about a skill level five to put in.
