Check that the arms spin freely when spun by hand, then check the outlet jets at the trailing end of the arms are not blocked with food particles and other solid matter. This often happens and the arm is unable to turn because the water jet that is supposed to drive the arm does not have the force to rotate it with the result is that the upper dishes do not get enough water and chemicals. .

I have a Maytag dishwasher Model PDB3600A. the dishes are left with a strong soap residue after a full cycle of wash. I use a powder detergent and Jet Dry. What should I check to solve the problem?

When you open up the dishwasher is there still water in the bottom of the dishwasher????? The screen around the bottom could be dirty. Or the drain line could be restricted, if it drains back to the Garbage disposal make sure it is draining. Are you using hot water??? Check to see if the Arms are turning and the ports are not plugged with debrie.... If the drains are OK and the screen is clean...... I put in about a half gallon of white Vinegar in the wash cycle after it filled with water and used no soap and rewashed the dishes. I ran the Hot water faucet at the Kitchen sink till the water was good and Hot and then on the dishwasher used the heat water feature. It cleaned up the dishes and the dishwasher. I did this on a Whirlpool dishwasher but it should work for any make of dishwasher. Hope this helps... I had to do this several time to get all the dishes back clean

Nasty dishwasher

Sounds like your heating element is broken and you should replace it to prevent a possible fire hazard. You can replace the element easily for not alot of cash. You'll need to pick up a new one at an appliance parts store, just bring them the model number of the appliance and they should be able to look up which part you need.
On most dishwashers the element will just lift up and pull out revealing some insulation and wires attached in the back. Just remove the wires and take the old one out and install the new one. Might be some short screws holding the element to the rear of the machine so have a phillips head (cross tip) screwdriver handy.
Of course you can always call a repair service to come and do it all for you, itll just cost a bit more.

Upper rack is not cleaning. Greasy dishes on top seem that dishes are not being washed. Seems the upper water turning dispenser is not working, Bottom rack seems ok. I guess I only have half a dish washer...

Check the upper arm for free spinning, then remove the arm and check that the seam between the upper and lower halves has not split somewhere. Also check all the small holes for debris plugging. Run the machine in wash cycle for a little while with the upper arm off--that should flush out anything blocking the pipe up to the arm. If still nothing from the upper arm, tear down the lower arm assembly down to the deck while noting position of all parts removed. Clean the big screen at the bottom in white vinegar and hot water. Inspect the holes in the bottom for anything blocking them.

First clean the sprayer arm of all debris. In the back of most dishwashers there is a screen on the bottom that is often full of junk, debris and other stuff from dishes not being scraped off.

Clean that screeen off.

Run vinegar (1 cup) for a full cycle to help break down the lime and other build ups.

Check sprayer arm for debris and other objects. carefully pick it out with a small needle or sometimes even a nail works.

Try running dishes again to see if this helps.
