Question about Canon Pixma MP480 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Any way to use scanner without having ink?

I just inherited a Canon MP480 and it did not come with ink cartridges. I don't need to use the printing functions of the Canon MP480, just the scanner. Is there any way to trick the printer into thinking that there are ink cartridges installed so it will actually do something instead of just powering on and telling me to put in ink or is the only way to get it to work to go out and buy ink for it?

Without rewriting the bios, I don't believe there is a way to fake it out.

Remove print head canon mp480

THe print heads are an integral part of each cartridge. When you remove the cartridges you actually remove the print heads. You will need to open the top front panel to access the print carriage which moves left and right over the paper under it. Using cotton swabs you can apply rubbing alcohol to the places the cartridges rest upon and absorb all the dried out ink. Be sure you toss the old cartridges out before you reassemble. If you need to store any ink type printers REMOVE ALL CARTRIDGES and clean off the receivers on the print carriage!

How do you change ink cartridges in a Canon Pixma MP480 printer?

I cannot believe no-one has answered this one but you just lift the platen/glass top unit from the front edge (the hinge is at the back) and when the carriage slides into view, flip the levers over the print cartridges up and lift the cartridges out. It should be in your manual but it's very intuitive and someone has probably shown you by now anyway. Hope you are up and running already.

Can i use pg-40 ink for my canon mp480

Sorry you can't use PG-40 on MP480. Canon MP480 printer takes only Canon PG-510 Black Ink Cartridge, Canon CL-511 Colour Ink Cartridge or Canon CL513 Colour Ink Cartridge (this one is high yield colour cartridge).

Loaded new color ink cartridge to my canon printer pixma 480

Use the wizard to replace the ink cartridge. The main idea is that the software must "reboot" and restart measuring ink levels and the only safe and easy way to do that is by using the wizard.

I have the Canon MP 480 I have an error code of 5200. This occured after we changed the ink cartridge. I have turned it off, reloaded software and still get the same error.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Error 5200

Error 5200 is a printhead temperature error, sounds like you need a new printhead. The part number is printed on the side of the printhead. it's a QY6 number
