I have been using Yahoo E-Mail for several years with no significant problems. I recently purchased a new Dell computer and try to continue to use Yahoo for E-Mail. A few of recipients receive my E-Mail with Greek letters vice English - others have no problems. The problem recipients use different TSPs and E-Mail systems. I have no problem receiving E-Mails in English on YAHOO. I can use Google Mail and another E-Mail provider with no problems sending or receiving. Help greatly appreciated. Frank...

    - Try
changing the encoding on your computer. On the web browser, go to View
and select Character Encoding. after that chose better code
for your language or select auto detect. Try either Unicode or Western. OK... My browser was set to "WESTERN" which I changed to "UNICODE."

    You
can also change the encoding in Yahoo Mail. Open a message in your
inbox and on the bottom right of the message, you can find a way to
change the encoding. No option for changing encoding anywhere on page... Unable to find any YAHOO option for setting/changing encoding....

Is there anything special about these emails that you send, are they new emails or are you replying to an email when it happens? No. I have sent same message to multiple addressees and almost one-half experienced the problem...????? I have also replied to and forwarded E-Mails with same results...??? When the problem recipient replays to my message, I can see the screwed up text in my oroginal message but no problem in their replied message!!??

Let me know how this turns out I just sent out another E-Mail to one of the problem recipients and also sent along a picture attachment. It might be a while before I receive a response - hours. Hope that you can hang in there and help... In the meantime, any more suggestions?? Thankx. Frank

E-Mails were reject assumed because of change to Character Encoding. I'm changing it back and re-sending... Will let you know results ASAP.

  • Frank H Phelps Jul 26, 2009

So, where are we now? I've restored the Character Encoding back to where is was - Western(ISO-859-1) and re-sent messages which I haven't heard back from yet. Of interest, a problem with address in North Carolina (BELLSOUTH.NET), Florida (GMAIL) and Arizona (COMCAST). Nothing in common except the Englilsh to Greek alphabet conversion. ???@#%^& Do you think that you can solve mystery or should I try someone else? This is driving me crazy!!!

  • Frank H Phelps Jul 26, 2009

Well for now I have switched to MS Internet Explorer vice Firefox and it seems that things are working OK. I'm holding my breath. I'm going to take a day off and will continue more testing tomorrow. I switched briefly to Yahoo Classic and encountered more problems with language so I'm back to newer version now. I still don't know what caused all this and would really like to know. SO strange, the Subject line was OK. The signature line OK. Attachments OK. Just problem with text of message.???$#@! I'll get back to you again later. If you have any more ideas, let me know... Thankx. Frank

I've sent test E-Mails to about 25 addressees, NC, FL, AZ, MD, Canada and Germany. All report not problem. I switched from Firefox to IE8 and disabled Outlook. Not sure which was causing the problem. Thanks for your help and future good luck... Frank I'm marking the problem as resolved...

What email program are you using and are you just sending text based messages when this happens or attachments?

You can try someone else if you wish, though I would try contacting yahoo about this next as encoding would be the only thing I would think that would cause this. When you figure it out, I would like to know what you had to do. One other thing you may want to try is switching from Classic Yahoo to Beta or vice-versa and see if that fixes it.

I don't know if you can see it but this is yahoo basic, I opened an email in the inbox on the left bottom you have "Previous, Next, and Back to Messages" on the bottom right you have "select message encoding and full header"

Try switching to yahoo basic if you are not in it, you should see this, I have also zoomed in a little below

Ok, that is strange, maybe you need to update to the newest version of Firefox or maybe you already did and the newest version was messing it, anyway things like this happen and you just never can figure them out it seems. Have a good day.

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334 PC Notebook Pink Screen and Greek Seeming Letters

Sounds like you have some hardcore malware. You might need to do a system reformat. When you turn on your laptop if you turn on your computer and all you see is this, the hardware could be damaged which would be an odd case. But I'll stick with my first thought. You need that cleaned up.

Accidently touched Greek.....how can i get it back to english

From the main screen you will need to select the preference setting (looks like a hammer and wrench and is on the second pages of items you can click on) Then you must click on the icon that looks like three maps. The second scroll bar (closest to the bottom) must be changed back from greek to english. Hope this helps.

Is it possible that someone has changed the settings on the PC you use?  Try accessing the account from a different pc and see if that works.  Check the regional settings on that pc and make sure they are ok.
