I purchased some used kenwood tk-3402u-k radios that were used to work with my existing kenwood tk-3402u-k radios. My existing radios are clonable but the radios I just purchased apear to be lock out from that feature. How can I get them into clone mode so I can copy my existing radios programming to them. Is there a way to unlock the cloning feature

Ok. I have looked through the service manual for both the 2160 and 3160 and can not find anything that indicates that you can clone with just a cloning cable and not use software. However the 2170 and 3170 say to turn the power on While pressing the B button which yours doesn't have. Try turing on the radio while pressing any one of the side buttons.
Hope this helps.
P.S. The software is reasonably easy to get and IS much easier to use.. dan

The software is only availible from Kenwood. the only way to get it is to purchase the registration key from them for that software. Sorry, I program radios everyday and even the company I work for has to purchase the Registration keys.

These radios can be programmed via the keypad. However, this
option must be enabled through the software, and must have a component
removed from the circuit board. If you have a radio that will not go
into self-programming mode when you use the proper key combination
(light button+dial button while turning the radio on), your radio has
not been enabled for this option.
