Re: toshiba 8100

Memory slots are getting loose. Try to keep pressure on the memory door. Also, might try new memory.
Good luck

Toshiba touchpad doesnt respond after 2 minutes

This issue could be a few things. 1. Make sure your driver for the mouse and keyboard are updated. 2. The mouse pad may be going bad. 3. There may be an issue with the motherboard. I would recommend checking your driver first. Then replace the mouse pad. You can also pick up a wireless mouse and plug the usb that comes with it into a usb port if you are not comfortable tearing apart your laptop.

Total loss of toshiba tecra keyboard after start up. It functions OK during start up to type in password but then there is total drop out. No key strike has any effect at all. Mouse and touch pad all fine.
maybe you keyboard has failed? although it is strange you can type in to logon? Anyway, above is a service and repair manual, this has troubleshooting steps to take to effect a remedy. Try Booting up in Safe mode desktop, SMDT, and see if it is a program conflict. If it work in SMDT mode, then you have some program conflicy. You will need in that case to use START>>RUN>>msconfig.exe, (enter) and disable programs in your startup folder, and find out which one is causing the problem.

Mouse pad isnt working??? I just got my ASUS laptop today NEW. when I boot it up mouse touch pad won't move cursor to log in ect.

r u in DOS mode ? mouse wont work in DOS mode..
if u got the Win Logon screen and mouse does nto work....
Shutdown the machine....
and send it back for a full refund or replacemnet....
u say it's dont fiddle with it...
if u have an external USB/PS2 mouse u can connect it to the USB port or the PS2 keyboard/mouse port and check if the machine is working....
i suggest u send it back or take it to the shop where u got it...

Computer freezes on boot up

make sure the mouse and keyboard are in right connections...if you look closely youll see icons next to ports.
try without mouse at first start up ,load windows and use key with windows logo on it to access start and scroll to shutdown tab and restart...plug in the mouse before restart.
if logo tab isnt assigned press ctrl + esc to access start menu.

Cursor only moves left to right

This device is monitored via a kind of strain gauge; that is why it does not seem to move; it does move but not noticeably.
If it is no longer responsive in one or the other direction, I would call it dead.
I have never seen one of these loose but I would expect to find a small sealed housing that has an equally small, multicontact connector attached.
If you are unlucky, Toshiba may have attached this to the keyboard's platform requiring the replacement of it as a unit.

On most laptops, the keyboard is fairly easy to remove and if you can accomplish that, restoring the truncated joy stick is probably not difficult.
Sorry I cannot give you detailed instructions for disassembly.

Mouse pad problem, cursor is moving but click function is not working

Try to enter BIOS (press ESC on start up) and see if mousepad is set correctly.
Otherwise try to download updated drivers from Toshiba website.

Keyboard problem

It sounds like you have a space bar that is stuck in the pressed position.

First, I would try cleaning with compressed air. This can be purchased at most any retail store in the electronics department. One you have it, just clean around each key as good as you can.

If that doesn't work, you can try to remove the keyboard so that you may be able to clean it better. Below, I have listed a site with instructions for removing the keyboard and also a site that has cleaning suggestions.

Keyboard removal instruction site:
This site also has pictures to help you along.

Keyboard Cleaning suggestion site:
This site list cleaning suggestions under the Product Knowledge section. I would only proceed as far as you feel comfortable in these instructions.
