We had 2 power outages and now our JBL 5.1 surround sound system has no power. Is there a fuse or something we can replace without having to buy a new system???

Most likley theres a fuse holder on the rear of the woofer. But you may have to fiddle with your sound card settings again, not reallly sure but hope this helps. The fuse will look like a black knurled knob about 1/2 inch high and around. Counterclockwise 1/4 turnto open.

Generally, there's a small fuse (maybe a 2 Amp one) in the 3 pin plug connecting to the socket. Just replace the fuse and it should be fine.

Hi, I bought a new JBL SCS 140 system with amp HK

Fuses blow when something is shorted. In this case it will be a semi-conductor of some kind. If the device uses IC for the main amplification then you are right to be worried!

The 158 amp is totally unsuitable for the JBL.
This is the specification of the JBL:
  • Recommended Amplifier Power 10 Watt
  • they are also 4 Ohm speakers.
  • 158 is: Output Impedance / Channel
    8 Ohm.

My wife says that the muteki 7.2 chanel does not need to be going all the time um something todo with the over useage of power so how do i just run the tv without the muteki going as it wont go meani

You can turn off the 7.2 channel surround sound system if you only want to listen to audio on the TV channels, you may need to increase the volume levels on the TV.
Use the 7.2 channel surround sound when you want surround sound when playing DVD movies.

Diaphragm problem

Yes it can be replaced and your system will be as good as new afterwards.

To get an idea of the work involved: http://www.audiofriends.nl/pdf/refoaming.pdf

There are several companies selling these so called surrounds. There are foam and rubber surrounds. Stick to the same material as you may otherwise significantly alter your system's sound. Just google "speaker repair" or "speaker surrounds" and you will find several. You can ask them to repair your speakers (which may be fairly expensive) or you can order the surrounds and glue (you can not just use any glue) and do it yourself.

I have done such repairs a few times myself and it is absolutely not difficult.

Good luck.

No power

Just call JBL parts.  They'll mail them to you.  Around $2 per fuse (two per speaker)

Friend gave me a jbl surround system to go with my 52" sony hd tv. It has four speakers. three sat 20 and one bass 20. going to a rca stva 3970 receiver. didn't have instructions to go with it.

You need two more speakers to get surround sound,ie> two front one center and two for surround, then you need a home cinema amp to run the speakers and decode the sound from your tv,sky, dvd etc,and the sub gives you your bass.

Hope this helps.

Hooking up new tv to surround sound

I recently purchased a vizio 37" LCD tv, I have tried everything in hooking up my Sony DVD surround system to the TV. However, I found no audio output on this TV. Could you tell me if there is a way to hook the tv directly up to the surround without an output?
Is there something else I need to buy?
