Re: XP Bootup on Compaq

If in the starting it is showing two operating system then make sure that which one is working and which one you want to remove

then boot your system with xp and right click on the my computer icon> go to properties >click on the advanced tab > then choose startup and recovery setting > there you will see defaukt operating system if it is showing two operating system then remove the OS which you dont want. Be careful to use this can reduse the time limit also.

Are you trying to set up a raid configuration? If not I would reformat using the 98 disk and reinstall. (You may be able to skip installing 98, try installing xp first and it should ask for the disk containing the software (win98) that qualifies for the upgrade.

Compaq presario 5400t was running out space on hard drive so i added a seagate external hard drive. after copying over files i deleted them off of the internal drive and must have inadvertantly deleted...

use your xp disk, boot from cd then rather format, select the F option to repair.
it will rewrite your windows folder without deleting other personal folders

Windows xp will not load on my computer....

It could be your hard drive problem. Which I called it, "Crash." I would suggest you try to format the hard drive and reload the operation system with your installation CD.

Won't boot up

Put original Operating System CD into drive, boot computer from CD and start reinstalling system. When you get to screen that says you can press "R" to repair the Operating system, press "R" and see if it can fix the system. Once it's running, be sure to check for Malware (use Malwarebytes) and viruses (use Vipre-rescue) - and get a good registry cleaner (Cleanmypc) and clean up the registry. If repairing the OS doesn't work, then you'll probably have to format and re-install everything. Being a Compaq, watch the screen for a "Restore" function, and follow the prompts.

My first method will not lose you date, the second one will. Restoration will format the drive and you'll lose everything.

Good luck.

How can i get rid of the compaq logo even after i format my hard drive .

The screen that I think you're referring to is the OEM BIOS splash screen.

This particular logo / image has nothing to do with your hard drive... it is embedded on a physical chip (EEPROM or ROMBIOS) on your motherboard.

It is possible to make modifications to this particular splash screen (through a hardware hack), but I don't recommend doing it. The screen shouldn't be a problem; it sounds like you might be experiencing a "Boot Order" issue.

I'm assuming you might be having problems with the Boot Order if you're having issues with loading your OS from CD. When you have the Windows CD in the CD ROM and you reboot the system, you should see the following message flash up on the screen (immediately following your OEM BIOS Splash screen):

"Press any Key to Boot from CD..."

If you don't see this message and your CD ROM Doesn't spin up and begin to load might have a Bad CD ROM, bad CD "Disc" might not have your BIOS Boot Order set up correctly.

To get into the BIOS Setup on a Compaq Presario system, do the following:

When the OEM Logo Splash screen appears, press F1 to enter the BIOS Setup.
Note: On certain Compaq Presario PCs (prior to 2002) press the F10 key at the logo screen to enter setup.

To change the Boot order:

Here's the URL for Compaq's Online FAQ for Changing the Boot Order:

Try changing the Boot Device Priority in the BIOS Setup: Make sure that the "CD ROM" entry is moved "Before" the entry for the Hard Drive and Network PXE:

Example Boot Order:
  1. CD ROM or Removable Media
  2. USB
  3. Floppy (if you have one)
  4. Hard Drive
  5. PXE (Network Boot)
This should help you load the OS successfully from CD (if you're not being presented with the "Press any Key to Boot from CD..." notification when rebooting with the Windows CD in the CD/ROM drive.

Please repost if this fixed your problem and rate my response!

Good Luck,
