My Photosmart 8050 still won't work. I got it to print a test page, align cartridges, and it worked fine. Now, when I try it online or not on line, it just won't take a command. Now, exactly which...

Hi!

First of all, you'll need to COMPLETELY uninstall the printer:
1. Unplug it from the computer.
2. Uninstall the ALL software/drivers through Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features - if you're using Windows Vista/7).
4. Restart the computer.
4. Go to Printers and Faxes (through the Control Panel) and make sure the printer is NOT listed. If it does - delete it.
5. This is an important step, follow carefully:
  1. Start -> Run.
  2. Type in: cmd
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Type in: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
  5. Press Enter.
  6. Type in: devmgmt.msc
  7. Press Enter.
  8. Device Manager window should be opened. Click on View.
  9. Click Show hidden devices.
  10. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. branch and delete ALL "grayed-out" devices under it (right click on them, then click Uninstall; click OK).
  11. Repeat step 13 for any grayed-out devices (if exist) under: a) Printer; b) DOT4 (not sure what the exact branch name - but it's something like this); c) Other devices. (** If you want, you can remove all the non-present (grayed-out) devices in all preset - except for in Non-Plug and Play Drivers [which is too risky if you don't know what you're doing]).
  12. Close the Device Manager.
6. Restart again.
7. Reinstall the printer software/driver (DON'T PLUG THE USB CORD YET) using the installation CD (or better, download the latest software from here!).
8. Plug the USB cord when asked - or when setup is done.

Please do tell if your problem's still unsolved!

Good luck,
Pelu.

6. When the power light stops flashing click PRINT NOZZLE CHECK PATTERN and then click NEXT.

7. If the nozzle check pattern has no gaps in its lines, click FINISH. If the pattern has any gaps, click CLEAN to clean the printhead again.

8. If the situation continues after three cleaning cycles and nozzle checks, replace one of the affected ink cartridge(s).

9. Once the cartridge(s) has been replaced, please follow steps one through seven up to three times.

If the nozzle check still has gaps after you have run at least 3 consecutive cleaning cycles and replaced the affected ink cartridge(s), your printer will require service.
