Question about Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

The brush on my dyson ds14 will no move.

The belt is intact and everthing else works. I brought the sweeper at a yard sale. athe sweeper is just like new. I called Dyson and the support department had me to take the cover off of the brush and made sure the belt was in line then I was told to turn the carpet lever up and down 5 or 6 times and then turn on the sweeper but the brush still did not work. I was then told to find a service store.

The brushes on my Dyson V6 sweeper attachment won't turn although it is fully charged.

Your battery may indicate fully charged but if dead it will do that and not work for squat. If charged the motor should run and turn the sweeper with power. If motor runs but sweeper does not check for a stretched belt or one that may have fallen off the pulley.

Hello, I have Dyson DC33. The brush bar isn't turning & the belt is on & intact. Any suggestions?

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

I need to change my sweeper belt on my Dyson 14 Animal

When turned on and set to sweep the sweeper makes a loud noise like it has something stuck in it but the brush is turning abut not does not have a lot of sucking power. It started the other day when a blanket with tassels got caught and wund up in the brush and sucked up in the sweeper a bit. Tried to pull out while running and came out but made the loud noise. If I take off the brush then it does not make the noise when on. I think it might be the belt grooves are worn and slipping when the sweeper is in the sweeping on mode. Sorry, do not know the technical sweeper terms.

Brush not turning

The belt doesn't have to be broken to be non-functioning. If the belt is intact but stretched it won't turn the brush. You can get belts here:

Belt not moving how do you check it

The belt should be replaced yearly so if you haven't changed it recently, I would. You might find that the belt is still intact, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the belt is okay. Even though the belt is intact it can still be stretched and if it is it will slip and not turn the brush properly. To access the belt turn the machine over and remove the (3) screws over the roller brush cover. There is also a clutch belt that should be replaced periodically, you should check that too. Here is the belts you need:

The brushes move freely by hand but wont spin

It could be the clutch that causing your problems. What you should do is take it to a repair shop and have it looked at and see if that's the problem.

Sounds like you have two separate problems here.  If the brush bar does not rotate, probably the belt is broken. This is easily replaced, but you need to be precise about which model you've got so you get the right belt.
Loss of suction is due either to a blockage or, quite often, to a split in the short length of clear plastic hose that leads back from the brush bar enclosure.  Repair is possible but replacement is better.
If you need more help, post here again.

Brushes not going round

The brushes on my dyson have stopped going round. I have checked it and they move freely by hand. The belt is intact. What could the problem be? The Hoover is about 10 to 12 years old.
My dyson is a dc04

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
One of the main problems with vacuums are that the flat belts on the vacuums stretch and should be changed every 4 to 6 months or 3 or 4 times a year – you can tell by taking off the belt or belts on the vacuums and compare them to the old belts on the vacuum the new belts will fix inside of the old belts and you will be able to see the difference on how much they have stretched – if the belt is a geared belt – they stretch as well but should be changed about one a year – the cost is not that expensive and you cleaning will improve almost double – this also applies for the Dyson DC04 and the Hoover vacuum as well – some of the Hoover vacuums have two (2) belts and they both should be changed @ the same time.
