I have a Whirlpool dishwasher model WDT720PADB1. It's maybe two years old. Recently, during a kitchen remodel, I pulled it out to replace some counter tops. I was shocked to find that the insulation on the left side when facing the washer as well as the cabinet wall were covered in black mold. The spot seemed to be centered around the two external water hoses under the insulation, but both were dry and clean. The mold was also only on the outside of the insulation. I cleaned it up as best I could, and ran a wash cycle with the dishwasher pulled out and the insulation removed to see if I could notice a leak. There was none. No steam or water. The hoses were bone dry after a full cycle. Thinking it was maybe a fluke, I reinstalled the dishwasher. Now, a month later, I pulled the dishwasher back out to check, and the mold is back, worse than before. What could be doing this? Please help.

Possible that you would have a tub seal leak if it is only noticable during spin cycle. Possible that it "drips" slightly while in agitation, but not enough to notice it. While in spin mode you have a lot more parts moving as well as a lot more water pressure on the seal itself. Pump could also be leaking, but highly doubtful since it would leak a constant amount at all times. Good Luck!!! Jim

Draing Problems:
To fix your draining problem you need to check the air gap(if you have one) , check if there is voltage going to your drain pump during the draining cycle. If there is voltage coming to your water pump and the dishwasher is still not draining then the problem could be a clogged drain hose, a clogged air gap or a bad drain pump. if there is no voltage detedcted on the drain pump during the drain cycle, then it could be a water level-switch/solonioed , wiring, or a control board problem.
Good luck.

Hello, you may have a small drip from the pump or a small drip from the hose that goes from the pump to the rear of the cabinet. To make sure you will have to run the unit with the cabinet removed. A local service tech can remove the cabinet quicklyand isolate the leak.

Sounds very similar to having something such as a sock or small article of clothing that is too large to be sucked down the drain hose into the pump. So what happens is it hangs around between the inner and outer drums and sometimes gets itself lodged over the drum drain hole, and can allow water to be centrifically flung over the top of the drum. Most times when the spin cycle stops, the article of clothing will dislodge and float around inside the drum only to do it again later....
If you can remove the top of the machine, you can usually see the gap between the two drums and use a piece of coathanger wire with a small hook on the end and "go fishing in the area between the two drums and close to the drain hole location... bet you'll find something in there... Let me know how it goes... and if I can help .. ken
