I assume my disc drive is not acting properly--it refused to burn a new disc no matter what I do--before I return the computer to the mfg for trouble repair--is there anything I can do to trouble ashoot myself--as I stated it is a "lightscribe DVD MULTIRECORDER RW DVD-R-DL COMPACT DISC REWRITABLE
ULTRASPEED"--all this written on the face. I have nothing else--the computer is an assembled local unit-"AMD 64 ATHLONX2powered by ASUS www.asus.com" stickers on the chasis front.
I know the thing has an IDE conroller or something like that inside and there may be tiny switches that are set for certain performance--for instance this is the only disc drive--ser as E.
Any nmanuals etc on the drive might be helpful--are there any conrols, setting etc that might be set improperly? Of couse the assembler a small firm in my town will know--but since it;s about 2 years since I

Are you sure the DVD-R disc you are trying to use is brand new and never written on?
Try using a DVD-RW disc or a different DVD-R disc...click on this link to learn more about DVD-R DVD-RW differences and troubleshooting

Another thing is to try a different program like NERO...click on the link to download it:

Sir first of all you need to make sure that the disc you are using to burn is a "DVD R" disc. Ordinary disc cannot be burned on a DVD writer. A DVD R disc may look somewhat like this. If your drive still not accepts the disc we have three option

  1. The disc you are using is either faulty or is written before and is locked for further writing
  2. You need another software to burn your disc
  3. Your drive is faulty
Try using CDBurnerXP (CDBurner Xp is a freeware and will burn your CDs and DVDs with ease) or Nero.
A little lens cleaning might also be helpful if you did not use your drive for a long time. Buy something like this.

Feel free to ask again.
Regards,
Waqar

I bought an HP laptop from Best Buy 3 years ago. Booklet instructions said I did not have to make recovery discs. Roxio Creator Basic was on computer when I bought it 3 years ago.. I liked program and used...

First, may I recommend Nero Burnlite 10? Nero BurnLite 10 is your solution for CD and DVD burning and copying, powered by the industry's best software. The easy-to-use interface lets you make flawless copies of music files or home videos to share, or create disc images in .iso and .nrg formats. Download it for FREE today!

If you don't like Nero, you may like CDBurnerXP. CDBurnerXP is a free application to burn CDs and DVDs, including Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs. It also includes the feature to burn and create ISOs, as well as a multilanguage interface. Everyone, even companies, can use it for free. It does not include adware or similar malicious components. It is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista/2008/Win7 (x86 / x64). Download it for FREE today!

You will need to contact HP to try and obtain another copy of Roxio Easy Creator Basic, if they even have it anymore. I would recommend sticking with one of the previously mentioned CD burning programs because they are more stable than Roxio, and burn better quality CDs.

Two computers ago, and two operating systems ago I purchased MGI Photosuite 4 software. I have been using it for about 10 years. I have hundreds of collages saved that require the MGI software to read and...

Wndows installers have changed over the years, so it's not a surprise that the program couldn't be reinstalled. The Roxio Photosuite 8 is listed as a Win2000-XP product; so it may not be the correct release for Win7 either unless you use a workaround. Look here for the current Roxio slide show products: http://www.roxio.com/enu/store/photo.html?rTrack=m_pro_photo

Workarounds: go with a dual-boot or virtual computer system. Win7 Pro and Ultimate let you run a virtual XP computer for free (download two programs - the virtual PC software and then XP mode). All other choices will require a licensed version of XP installed either in the virtual computer program or in a second partition for dual-boot. I've found that files can not be transferred directly from XP mode to the real computer; they must be stored on external media. Then install your software as you would on any stand-alone computer.

I hope this helps.

Roxio creator 2009 burning issues

Here's a few things you can try:

1.) Download Service Pack 3 for Creator 2009. This updates the software and is recommended.

http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/c2009/software_updates.html

2.) Update your CD/DVD burner drives. This can be done by going to the manufacturers website and checking for updates. (Ex: If you purchased your computer from Dell and it came with a built in burner, you'd check Dell.com for updates.)

3.) Update the PX Engine. This is Roxio software that communicates with the CD/DVD burner drives.

4.) If all else fails, try visiting this KB article:

DVD-RW IBM A31 Thinkpad problem

I take it you are trying to "send to" files to the DVD-RW?You can't burn a DVD just with windows XP . It only supports CDRW drives.

Get commercial software like Roxio or Nero, or download a free CD burning program like this one:

DVD-RW drive not detected in my laptop by SOME software

I am asuming your using XP, this happened to me a few years ago, i searched google and found a forum that had instructions on editing a registry key to fix the problem but i wasn't able to see the drives in the device manager at all, so check that first and make sure they are there and try reinstalling the device drivers, using windows update or manually search for newest version of the drivers, if all that fails try reinstalling the applications your having issues with, if that fails you can try getting another application to replace the ones that aren't working, try alcohol 120% or Nero, those are about the best out especially a120 however it would require a purchase.
